Anthony Davis Officially Declines His Last Year Contract
Los Angeles star player Anthony Davis is officially opting out in his final year contract with the team. He will now be an unrestricted free agent.
It was first rumored that Los Angeles star player Anthony Davis was planning to opt-out of his contract of Los Angeles Lakers.
There were two possibilites: either he will sign again for another long-term contract, or he will enter into a contract with a player option in the last year.
According to Yahoo's Chris Haynes, Anthony Davis is officially opting out of the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and this means that he will be an unrestricted free agent.
This also means that Anthony Davis could freely sign with any other team.
However, fans of other teams should not get excited and speculate that Davis will be searching for a new home. He is expected to re-sign with the Lakers for the long term. Davis said during one of his interviews that he wanted more championships with Lebron James.
According to CBS Sports, the league's transaction moratorium will be lifted on Monday, and free agency will officially begin on Friday, two days after the 2020 NBA Draft.
This means that the cam of Anthony Davis and Los Angles should come up with an agreement before the training on Dec.1.
Additionally, the transaction to keep Anthony Davis in the team has been in the works for months. Right now, there are only minor issues both camps are trying to fix. It is either Davis will sign for a full-four year contract maximum contract or he will sign a shorter deal.
Meanwhile, Lebron James' current contract will end in 2022. Davis could sign a contract that will end in a year with Lebron James. But there are rums as well that Davis and James could sign a longer contract to bring more championships with the team.
Whatever the contact of Anthony Davis will be in the coming days, one thing is just for sure.
Both Davis and James are well-positioned to make the team as title contenders in the next season which will begin on Dec. 22. There is no fixed schedule yet as to which teams will open the season.
Despite many concerns that Davis and James could have a chemistry problem in the team, the duo proved that there is no problem for two stars playing in one team.
Their recent victory in the previous season just proved that they could bring the Lakers more championship rings.
It was the first championship ring of Anthony Davis in his entire professional basketball career. He recorded 27.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game in the postseason while battling several injuries.
