Teen Migrant Facility in Texas Allows 'Sleeping Head to Foot' in One Room, Rep. Taylor Says
Two GOP congressmen who toured teen migrant facilities in their respective towns in Texas were upset about what they saw during their visit.
The congressmen witnessed that migrants in the facilities were allowed to sleep without social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Representative Van Taylor visited a teen migrant facility in Dallas on Tuesday, and Representative August Pfluger visited a Midland facility on Wednesday.
Taylor noted that the migrants detained in the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas were "sleeping head to foot" inside a single room of the facility, Fox News reported.

Teen Migrant Facilities
As of Wednesday, about 5,000 migrant children and teens are under the custody of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), according to an NPR report.
Data retrieved from the agency also showed that 590 teens and children are arriving at the southern border each day over the last three weeks.
"For many years we have struggled as a country to have a secure southern border," said Taylor, emphasizing that America has never had a surge like this one before.
Taylor was also surprised about the number of teen migrants in the facility, saying that, in his understanding, the facility has only 2,300 beds. But during his time of visit, "1,602 kids" are already admitted as of 8 a.m. of the previous day, and it can reach the maximum capacity of the facility by "close of business today."
Another problem that concerns Taylor is migrants testing positive for COVID-19. He said: "It's very hard to think that they didn't infect somebody else when they're sleeping on the floor, seven to a room for a week."
Taylor noted that there were no physical barriers in the facility that separate the teen migrants from each other.
Meanwhile, the facility in Midland that Pfugler has visited has a record of 300 teens. Pfugler noted that some had already tested positive for COVID-19.
"They had a mixture of single and double rooms," said Pfugler, adding that among more than 300 kids, "about 10 percent" had tested positive for the disease.
But Pfugler said the kids seemed to be healthy, making the congressmen noted that they are getting help there.
Teen Migrants on the rise
Because of the influx of migrant children, migrant facilities are getting full. About 1,750 boys are being held at the Dallas' Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center as of Tuesday.
Volunteers said these children are doing well and "on a path to having a much better life ahead of them," according to The Dallas Morning News report.
Most of the teenagers who are being admitted are from Central America. Most of them were sent to the prepared "decompression centers" from overcrowded federal facilities situated at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Meanwhile, around 3,300 children have already stayed in CBP facilities for more than 72 hours. According to the law, children must be transferred under the Health and Human Services (HHS) care within 72 hours.
HHS assured that the children "are again COVID-19 tested" when they arrive at the migrant facility and are tested every three days.
Taylor has described his tour to be "the most upsetting thing" he has witnessed in his time in Congress.
