Prince Harry Snubs the Queen's 95th Birthday as He Rushes Home to Meghan Markle After Funeral
Prince Harry has reportedly returned to his home in California after flying to London for the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip.
According to Daily Mail, Prince Harry has flown on an American Airlines flight that arrived at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at around 1:30 p.m. local time.
His car was seen leaving the private terminal at LAX shortly after the plane landed. Harry's return to the United States means he will miss the Queen's 95th birthday on April 21.
Queen Elizabeth II remains in mourning after the death of her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. She reportedly returned to her official duties last Friday.
Aside from Prince Harry, Prince Charles will also miss the Queen's birthday. He is at his home in Wales. The same was the case for Prince William, who was not expected to visit her on her birthday.
Prince Harry was reported to have been intending to stay for the Queen's birthday. However, sources said he has a "tight schedule" and wanted to return to the U.S. to see his pregnant wife, Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry in the U.K.
Royal insiders claimed that Prince Harry had experienced "a great deal of frostiness" from his relatives during his stay in the U.K.
"Ironically the only one who has expressed any sympathy towards him is Prince Andrew," royal insiders said as reported by The Sun.
The Duke of Sussex was seen chatting with Prince William and Kate Middleton during the funeral. Insiders said some royals did not extend the warmest response to Harry.
"As far as the others are concerned, there is a deep sense of protection towards the Queen and resentment towards Harry," the insiders added.
They also noted that there was little sympathy for him after what he and Meghan Markle said in their Oprah interview.
According to Page Six, Prince Harry reportedly wrote Prince Charles a "deeply personal" letter before his U.K. homecoming. Harry earlier opened during his Oprah interview that his father had stopped taking his calls.
A source close to Prince Harry said that he was "forced to write the letter" after a complete communication breakdown. The Duke of Sussex earlier admitted that his initial call with his father after the Oprah interview was "not productive."
Prince Harry stated his reasons for leaving life in the U.K. as a senior royal in his letter. He also reportedly promised to respect the institution of the monarchy.
Harry was said to have gotten personal time with his father and elder brother, having two-hour peace talks with them after the funeral of Prince Philip on Saturday.
The brothers were first joined by "peacemaker" Kate when they walked together back to Windsor Castle from St George's Chapel.
Reports said Prince Harry and Prince Charles did not have a one-on-one due to fears of a misunderstanding. His father and elder brother reportedly insisted on meeting Harry together for fear that a different "version of events" would come out from Harry's camp.
"It was important to Charles and William that they were both there together. It means nothing spoken about can be misconstrued in the future," a source said in a report.
In their Oprah interview, the Sussex family revealed that in the months ahead of Archie's birth, there were concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he is born. It caused a stir among the family and viewers.
They also talked about Meghan's experience with suicidal thoughts and the British tabloid's criticism.
Harry is expected to the U.K. again in July for the unveiling of a memorial to his mother, Princess Diana.
