MMA Max Holloway vs Yair Rodriguez on the Works, UFC President Dana White Says
Max Holloway-Yair Rodriguez's featherweight matchup for UFC was reported to be in the works for July. UFC President Dana White confirmed the match between the MMA fighters with ESPN and expected it to be in the headline of UFC Fight Night.
Both parties have not yet signed the contract for the fight. However, it was also confirmed with ESPN that UFC is close to finalizing the 145-pound featherweight matchup between the mixed martial artists.

Holloway-Rodriguez Featherweight Matchup
Once the contract for the bout between Max Holloway and Yair Rodriguez was finalized, the match is expected to take place on July 17. However, details regarding the venue and the timeslot have not been furthered by the UFC or Dana White.
Once the fight is official, Bleacher Report noted that the featherweight matchup will be the first fight Rodriguez will partake into since he won against Jeremy Stephens in October 2019 via unanimous decision. Rodriguez was supposed to compete against Zabit Magomedsharipov in 2020, but his ankle injury made him drop out in the match.
Furthermore, Rodriguez was also suspended until March of this year for violating the UFC's "anti-doping policy" as he failed to file the location of his testing three times in the course of 12 months.
Rodriguez (13-2-0) will go against Holloway (22-6-0), a former UFC featherweight champion. Holloway ranked second in the UFC Featherweight Rankings and has won against Calvin Kattar in December. Holloway also landed a UFC record of 445 total strikes in a five-round decision win against Kattar at the beginning of the year on Fight island. Furthermore, the 29-year-old MMA fighter defended his title three times before he lost to Alexander Voilkanovski in 2019 and lost for a rematch in 2020.
Moreover, Bleacher Report noted that Holloway ranked number one in the UFC Featherweight contender list and number 9 on the pound-for-pound rankings. Holloway is already considered in line for the 145-pound title shot but the division is currently on hold because current champion Volkanovski is expected to fight against Brian Ortega sometime in 2021.
UFC Upcoming Fights
Apart from the most awaited Max Holloway vs Yair Rodriguez expected to take place on July 17, other events were also scheduled by UFC to take place in June.
