Melissa Coates: Ex-WWE Star Known as 'Super Genie' Dies at 50

Former WWE wrestler Melissa Coates, also known as "Super Genie," died Wednesday, June 23, at the age of 50.

The news about the WWE legend's passing broke out on Thursday afternoon, June 24, when her friend posted on social media, The U.S. Sun reported. However, no cause of death has yet been given.

It can be recalled that in 2020, Melissa Coates underwent a life-saving leg amputation due to blood clots in the arteries of her left lower leg.

Friends and colleagues of Melissa Coates expressed their sympathies on the sudden passing of the "Super Genie." American Pro-Wrestler Bayley reminisced the time when she got a chance to have a match with Coates.

"I had my very first match against Melissa Coates. There's always a forever in connection when you share the ring with someone and I'm honored to have that with her," said Bayley in a statement. The WWE wrestler also expressed her gratitude to Coates, adding that she will never forget her.

Canadian pro-wrestler Nattie Neidhart also expressed her condolences on Twitter as the wrestler posted a snap of Coates looking fit in a blue bikini.

"Thinking about Melissa today. I am so sad about her passing. Melissa was always so kind to everyone she met and had a huge heart," said Nattie on her post.

The wrestler added that the photo she posted was Coates' favorite photo of herself. Neidhart ended her statement by expressing how Melissa Coates was loved and remembered.

Before Coates' passing, the WWE legend has managed wrestler Terry "Sabu" Brunk since 2014. Brunk has retweeted a post referencing Coates' death, the U.S Sun reported. However, the tweet could not be seen as Brunk's Twitter account was suspended upon this writing.

"Sabu will not be taking calls and please respect their privacy at this time," the insider told the U.S. Sun. The unnamed source also urged the people to keep Coates and her family in prayers.

'Super Genie' as a WWE Wrestler

Ringside News reported that Melissa Coates started her wrestling career when she signed with WWE in 2005. Coates trained under Killer Kowalski and the Ultimate Pro Wrestling Ultimate University. She appeared on the main roster of the Master Lock challenge, but she left the WWE ring in 2007.

Before entering the world of wrestling, Coates first competed in the world of Tennis and bodybuilding. The WWE legend was inspired by tennis legend Martina Navratilova and opted to pursue the sport when she turned 15.

However, she switched to weightlifting and entered the International Federation of Bodybuilding throughout the 1990s. Her success led her to be ranked ninth in the field of bodybuilding, women's division.

Melissa Coates was then featured on several fitness magazines such as Muscle & Fitness, Muscle Mag, Muscular Development, and even Iron Man. These all happened before she entered WWE and become a wrestler and managed Sabu.
