Yankees and MLB banned a fan from entering all the MLB stadiums, after throwing a baseball, hitting Red Sox's Alex Verdugo. SportsNet New York (SNY) reported that the announcement was made by the Yankees and MLB on Sunday, a day after the incident occurred.

Yankees Fan Banned From Entering MLB Games

As the incident occurred, USA Today Sports reported that a spokesman for both New York Yankees and MLB confirmed the decision. The New York Yankees also issued a statement, saying that incident that happened has "no place for it [dangerous acts] at Yankee stadium."

"Disorderly and dangerous behavior that puts the safety of players, field staff, or fellow fans in jeopardy will not be tolerated," said the New York Yankees in a statement.

The Yankees then underscored that the safety of everyone in the field is their "priority."

"The safety of everyone at Yankee Stadium, including guests in the stands and players on the field, will always be the top priority for the Yankees organization every time we open our doors," the Yankees further noted.

Despite their decision to ban the fan - who was not named by the authorities - and the reiteration of everyone's safety in their stadium, the team acknowledged and appreciate the "spirit and passion" their fans have in some of their rivalries.

New York Yankees manager, Aaron Boone, also expressed his thoughts on the issue, labeling the incident as "awful, embarrassing, and unacceptable."

Fan Throws Baseball to Red Sox's Alex Verdugo

The prohibition of the fan stemmed out on Saturday night, when Red Sox's Alex Verdugo was hit by a baseball in the back on Saturday, during their match on the Yankee Stadium. Citing multiple fans from the left-field bleachers, New York Post reported that the ball was tossed into the stands after warmups between the top and bottom of the sixth. The outlet noted that chants allegedly began for the fan to throw the ball back into the field.

USA Today Sports, mentioning Verdugo, further noted that the outfielder tossed the baseball into the stands to a young Red Sox fan. However, a Yankees fan intercepted and threw it back into the field hitting the outfielder's back.

A security guard for the game, identified as Carlos Ventura, shared that Verdugo was furious as he turned around and started yelling at the fans.

Red Sox Manager Alex Cora noted that he pulled Verdugo out of the field to calm him down.

"He [Verdugo] needed time to breathe and to get his thoughts," Cora noted. The Red Sox manager also shared that he was shocked by what happened. "It's a game. This is not life and death. It's not this drama," Cora highlighted.

Meanwhile, Alex Verdugo expressed what he felt after the incident.

"I felt like it was targeted towards me, and it doesn't sit well with me," Red Sox's Alex Verdugo highlighted. The outfielder also noted that fans should get better, underscoring that what he experienced would not be done to somebody walking in the street.
