Two American Airlines passengers fought over a reclining seat on a flight from New Orleans to Austin, Texas on Sunday. The physical altercation of the two men was recorded in a video, first shared by the local news outlet, KXAN.

One man can be seen waving his finger in the face of another man before he threw a punch. A person standing between the two American Airline passengers seemed to try to calm the situation, Independent reported.

An eyewitness said the tension between the two men had escalated after they landed in Austin. The witness noted that both American Airline passengers had jumped up when the seatbelt sign was turned off, and they physically started fighting each other.

The video showed that the passengers were shouting at the two men, with one saying not to hurt anybody else on the plane, Fox News reported.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Police Department officers had responded to the scene after the plane landed for an altercation between the two American Airlines passengers.

The airline's statement did not include what had started the fight between the two passengers. However, one passenger said the two fought over a reclined seat that got stuck. The men were escorted off the plane and had been detained. However, it was unclear if either was arrested.

Disruptions on American Airlines Flight

Last month, American Airlines had also faced a disruption in one of its flights due to a passenger. A woman was hauled off from a flight from New Orleans to Dallas after she refused to wear a mask, NOLA reported.

About one in five flight attendants had stated that they had seen physical altercations between passengers this year. The common problem was their refusal to follow federal mask mandates.

Other incidents also involve other airlines, such as the case of Alaska Airlines when one of its passengers started urinating near his seat after taking several beers and a couple of shots before takeoff, Seattle Times reported.

Another flight to Los Angeles had also experienced disruption when a shirtless musician with a record of mental illness tried to fling open an exit door. Five people reportedly fought to stop him.

Unruly Airline Passengers

The Federal Aviation Administration has faced over 3,400 reports of "unruly" passengers this year. The agency noted that the rise in conflicts was connected to mask requirements in the air.

Other key factors in outbursts that have caused disturbance among passengers and crew members were alcohol, drug use, and mental illness.

There were also instances of passengers trying to open doors on planes, which caused panic and violence inside the aircraft.

One passenger earlier hit a woman holding an infant over a window shade dispute. A court record stated that another ran through business class and stomped on a flight attendant's foot after the power outlet at her seat would not charge her phone.

Federal prosecutors earlier said that a distressed passenger on a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Los Angeles had smashed a flight attendant's head against the emergency door. The flight attendant had a "hematoma" on her temple because of the incident.
