The "God of War," an action-adventure video game for Playstation consoles, is being eyed by Amazon Prime Video to be made into a live-action television series.

Sources told Deadline that Prime Video is in negotiations for a TV series that will be based on the popular ancient mythology-themed game.

The outlet noted that Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, best known for their works on "The Expanse" and "Children of Men," together with "The Wheel of Time" executive producer Rafe Judkins, are involved in the series adaption.

Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions will also be involved in the project, The Verge reported.

'God of War' TV Series by Amazon Prime Video Likely to Elaborate Greek-Inspired History

Details about the TV show's premise are still sparse, but producers will have a lot of ground to cover if the TV adaption by Amazon Studios does come to fruition.

Created by David Jaffe at Sony's Santa Monica Studio, the God of War franchise comprises seven total games across four PlayStation consoles. The Greek-inspired history of God of War started with the release of the first game for PlayStation 2 in 2005.

The story of "God of War" follows Kratos, an ex-Spartan warrior, who embarks on a perilous journey to seek revenge on the Greek God of War Ares after the deity's influence caused him to murder his loved ones. After becoming the ruthless God of War himself, Kratos is constantly looking for a chance to change his fate.

Following multiple releases on various PlayStation consoles, including the PS3 and the handheld PSP, Santa Monica Studio brought new life into the franchise with the 2018 PlayStation 4 game.

In it, Kratos returns to the Norse wilds with his son Atreus for a second chance at parenting. The installment got many honors at the 2018 Game Awards, including Game of the Year.

The series is now on its eighth installment, "God of War: Ragnarok," which is set to release later this year and shifts the setting to the Norse realm of Midgard.

Fergus and Ostby shared an Oscar nomination for co-writing "Children of Men." They also co-wrote the script for "Iron Man," which launched Marvel Studios' box-office dominance. Judkins also has Marvel ties, having worked on ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." as a writer and producer.

'God of War' to Be Among TV Series Based on a Popular Video Game

The "God of War" would be the next major deal for a TV series based on a famous video game title in a red-hot streaming marketplace for gaming intellectual property (IP).

Sony has already struck some deals adapting some of its most popular games for TV and film. Peacock has recently given a series order for Sony's "Twisted Metal" games, with Anthony Mackie in the lead.

"The Last of Us," a high-profile PlayStation game-based series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, is on the way to premiere on HBO. A "Resident Evil" TV series is also in the works for Netflix, while "Halo" is due to debut on Paramount+.

Amazon Studios has also been particularly aggressive in the arena. It also has Killer Films' upcoming series adaptation of "Fallout," starring Walton Goggins. Amazon is also developing a "Mass Effect" TV series adaptation and closed a deal with dj2 Entertainment to develop TV series based on its gaming IP.
