Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians has announced that he will step aside to take a front-office role with the team effective immediately.

Defensive coordinator, Todd Bowles, will be the one to replace Arians as the new head coach of the Tampa Bay team, according to an NBC Sports News report.

Bowles previously coached the Jets to a 24-40 record from 2015 to 2018. It was his only full-time head coaching job.

Bowles would become the sixth minority head coach in the league, joining Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh), Ron Rivera (Washington), Robert Saleh (Jets), Mike McDaniel (Miami), and Lovie Smith (Houston).

Arians said that his new role would be as a "senior consultant for football." It would start with Tampa Bay's 2022 draft prep.

Arians said that when Tom Brady came back, he realized that it was the perfect timing for him to go into the front office and still have the relationships that he loves.

Hiring Bowles would be the fourth full-time minority coach hired by the Glazers, which is the most in NFL history.

Arians said that he knows that his guys are going to be taken care of, adding that he could not leave them "hanging."

Bruce Arians Stepping Down From Head Coach Role

Arians said that he will probably be retiring next year and he would rather see Bowles in position to be successful and not have to take some "crappy job," according to a New York Post report.

He said that he was planning to retire next February, but he would not have control if Brady gets hurt, saying that it is an open interview for the job.

There was reportedly a rift between Arians and Brady. However, the Buccaneers' head coach denied that he was stepping aside as a precondition of Brady returning.

Arians did say that Brady coming out of retirement provided a good time for him to step away. He said that he made the realization after the Super Bowl, adding that Brady "was kind of the key."

Greg Auman confirmed Arians' decision through a tweet, with the news of Bowles being the replacement.

The Buccaneers won Super Bowl LV over the Kansas City Chiefs last year with Arians as coach and Brady as a quarterback.

Tom Brady Coming Out of Retirement

Brady has spent the past 40 days thinking about his decision and came to realize that he still belongs in the field. The quarterback said at the time that he has realized for the past two months that his place is still on the field and "not in the stands," according to an NBC Boston News report.

He said that he will be coming back for the 23rd season in Tampa.

Bucs General Manager Jason Licht also released his own statement, saying that he and Arians had several conversations with Brady recently that made them believe that the quarterback might be coming back.

Licht said that they are glad Brady had come back this season, adding that they earlier said they would leave all options for him to reconsider his retirement.
