Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis: Mexican Drug Cartels Should Award Pres. Joe Biden With 'Honorary Membership' for His Open Border Policies
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis slammed President Joe Biden over his open U.S.-Mexico border policies that empower Mexican drug cartels who profit from smuggling migrants.
During a speech on Wednesday, the Republican governor said Biden "should be given an honorary membership in the Mexican drug cartels" since nobody has done more to help the cartels than the president with his open border policies.
According to The Daily Wire, DeSantis made his comment during an announcement about the latest manufacturing investments in Okaloosa County in Florida.
DeSantis described the open border policies as a "total disaster," adding that he fears the revocation of Title 42 will make things "even worse."
The Florida governor then accused Biden of "violating his own oath of office" by allowing massive numbers of people to come across the border illegally. He said border communities are getting killed in southern Texas with everything coming in.

Ron DeSantis commented that the open border policies also accelerate America's fentanyl problem as narcotics flow over the border unchecked.
The New York Post reported that DeSantis also blasted Biden for allowing the Trump-era border control policy to end, arguing that the country's south of the border has come undone.
Last December, the Florida governor said he wanted new state laws to protect Florida from Biden's border policies, which he directly linked to the stabbing death of a Jacksonville resident.
In this homicide case, authorities charged a Honduran man who posed as a 17-year-old under a fake name. Rep. John Rutherford joined DeSantis at the time for criticizing the Biden administration over immigration, Jacksonville reported.
The Southern Poverty Law Center opposed DeSantis's proposals. The group said the Republican governor was "yet again targeting immigrant communities across Florida."
DeSantis announced last year that the state's Department of Children and Families published an emergency rule that would deter licensing facilities that house immigrant minors.
He has also committed to cancel contracts with companies that transport illegal immigrants into Florida and reroute them away from the state.
U.S.-Mexico Border
CBS4 Local reported that the number of injuries at the U.S.-Mexico border continues to go up as migrants attempting to cross into the U.S. were faced with the risk of serious injuries.
According to U.S. Border Patrol data between 2020 and 2021, the number of rescues and deaths saw a significant increase. There were 12 rescues and 10 deaths during the fiscal year 2020.
The number of rescues climbed to 688, while deaths were 39 for the fiscal year 2021. In 2022, El Paso Sector agents have made 294 rescues and reported 16 deaths.
Border Patrol said a major number of injuries and deaths were caused by falls off the border wall. Last year, more than 300 migrants had injuries due to falling off the border wall in west Texas and New Mexico.
University Medical Center hospital officials told the El Paso Times that the county hospital spent nearly 14 million in medical expenses on migrants and received $2.7 million in reimbursements.
