The son of former Honduras President Porfirio Lobo Sosa was killed on Thursday by a group of armed men who blocked their exit in a parking lot.

According to Associated Press, Lobo's son who died in the attack was Said Lobo Bonilla. TeleSUR English reported that the son of the former Honduras chief executive was 23 years old.

Three other people, including 23-year-old Luis Zelaya, the nephew of Honduras' ex-Defense Minister Romeo Vasquez Velasquez, also died in the attack. According to Daily Mail, a certain Salomon Vasquez and Lobo Bonilla's driver and security agent, Norlan Rodriguez, were also among the fatalities.

Attorney General's Office spokeswoman Lorena Calix confirmed the death of the son of the former president. The victims were reportedly shot dead as they left a nightclub in Tegucigalpa City at around 2 a.m. local time.

At least five gunmen blocked the parking lot exit ramp and pulled out Lobo Bonilla and three others from two vehicles. In a surveillance camera footage, the gunmen, who wore vests from a police anti-gang squad, can be seen forcing the men to stand facing a wall. The video is then cut off.

Local media reported that each victim, including the son of the former president, was shot in the head. When the attackers fled the crime scene, one appeared to be wounded and had to be carried into the vehicle.

"The murder of four youths, including a son of former president Porfirio Lobo Sosa, is attributed to members of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13). The intention is to cause chaos, instability, and terror," Honduras' National Police Director Gustavo Sanchez said.

The two vans used by the victims were left abandoned at the exit of the said parking lot. The shooting specifically occurred at the Torre Morazan building.

Honduras' Ex-President Porfirio Lobo Sosa on His Son's Death

The former president of Honduras immediately went to the crime scene, where he confirmed the death of his son to the press.

"I couldn't see my son, but these are things that hurt... My son is hanging out with some friends. We don't know if it was ordered or what," said Lobo, who served the country from 2010 to 2014.

The former president noted that the gunmen who killed his son were "not rookies" but trained people. Lobo said his youngest son, Luis, 19, avoided being killed because he was driving another vehicle when the incident occurred.

Honduras Officials on the Death of Former President's Son

Honduras President Xiomara Castro sympathized and expressed solidarity with the former president, and his wife Rosa Bonilla, and the other victims' families.

"Solidarity with former President Porfirio Lobo, Rosita, and relatives of vilely murdered young people. I condemn death squads that have operated for years in Honduras with impunity. We won't rest until we dismantle them," Castro wrote on Twitter.

The National Police director noted that they will not rest until they find out who committed the attack and those who ordered them.

Sanchez noted that authorities are now investigating and looking into "the clothing the criminals were wearing."
