Nancy Pelosi Says Donald Trump Is Not 'Man Enough' to Testify Before Jan. 6 House Committee After Being Subpoenaed
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi thinks former President Donald Trump is not "man enough" to testify before the Jan. 6 House committee that subpoenaed him.
The Jan. 6 House committee officially issued a subpoena on Trump on Friday. The panel demands that the former president returns the classified documents by November 4 and appear in front of the committee before November 14.
Nancy Pelosi told Jonathan Capehart on "The Sunday Show" that she does not think Trump's lawyers would want him to show up as he has to "testify under oath," according to Business Insider.
"But I don't think he'll show up. I don't think he's man enough. We'll see," the speaker noted. She said people will have to see if Trump is "man enough to show up, and the public should make a judgment."
Nancy Pelosi noted that if Trump does not conform to the subpoena issued on him, the public can say that Trump "thinks he is above the law."
"No one is above the law. If we believe that, then they should make a judgment about how he responds to that request," the speaker said.
The Jan. 6 House committee noted that Trump is mandated by law to follow the subpoena they issued. Rep. Adam Kinzinger earlier said the Justice Department holding Donald Trump in criminal contempt is "a bridge we cross if we have to."

Reps. Bennie Thompson and Liz Cheney, leaders of the Jan. 6 panel, wrote to Donald Trump Friday and said they have gathered "overwhelming evidence" that he personally created and oversaw the effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.
The two leaders noted that the evidence also covered those from dozens of Trump's former appointees and staff. Thompson and Cheney said the committee's request was "narrowly focused" on information that the former president was "uniquely positioned to provide," The New York Times reported.
Cheney, the committee's vice chairwoman, noted that if Trump refused to follow the subpoena, panel members would "take the steps" they are required to take.
The subpoena orders Trump to hand over documents and appear in a deposition that could last several days. A lawyer for Trump said in a statement on Friday that their legal team would review the subpoena but criticized the House committee for what he described as "unprecedented action."
The documents that Donald Trump is ordered to hand over include any communications about extremist groups involved in the Capitol riot.

Liz Cheney said the former president will be unable to turn his testimony in front of the panel into a "circus."
NBC reported that the panel vice chairwoman noted that the House committee takes the matter with great seriousness, adding that the deposition will be conducted with "a level of rigor and discipline" that the investigation deserves.
Meanwhile, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon was sentenced to four months in jail on Friday after defying a subpoena from the House committee.
The New York Times said that Donald Trump has yet to confirm if he will comply with the subpoena. However, he has privately mused that he might comply if his testimony is broadcast live.
