Sales Tax Holidays in Florida: Key Dates, Tax-Free Items and More
A sales tax holiday is when consumers experience the sales tax of their procured goods waived or reduced for a limited time. The duration and date of the implementation of the sales tax holiday depend on the state.
Consumers can have specific purchases such as back-to-school shopping or disaster preparedness supplies in sales tax-free buy.
In Florida, there is a sales tax holiday dedicated to children's clothing, which is called the Children's Clothing Sales Tax Holiday.
It starts on July 1, 2022, up to June 30, 2023. All clothing items for babies and children ages five and younger will be included in the sales tax holiday, as well as baby diapers.
Some of the sales Tax holidays that has ended are on children's books, which lasted from May 14 to August 14.
The Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday also ended on June 10, 2022. Meanwhile, the back-to-school Sales Tax Holiday was halted on August 7, 2022.

Sales Tax Holiday Florida
Florida still employs Energy Star Appliances starting on July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023. The sales tax exemption will be applicable for non-commercial use and on new appliances.
Eligible products are clothes dryers selling for $1,500 or less; washing machines for $1,500 or less; and refrigerators or a combination of refrigerators and freezers selling for $3,000 or less.
Water heaters selling for $1,500 or less are also covered in the Energy Star Appliances tax sale.
There is also a sales tax holiday for revamping your homes. The sales tax holiday applies to an impact-resistant garage doors, impact-resistant windows, and impact-resistant doors.
The Windows and Doors Sales Tax Holiday will run from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2024.
The state used to have a Gas Tax Holiday, which ran from October 1 to October 31, 2022. It reduced the tax on motor fuel by $0.25 per gallon.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis proposed a family-focused tax relief for 2023 in September 2022.
DeSantis said that the proposal will allow families to purchase items for their children at a lower cost.
The proposal included a permanent tax exemption on items containing medicinal ingredients and medical equipment to close the gap between medical supplies and equipment that are not covered by the sales tax exemption
Certain tax holidays will also have a continuation such as the Disaster Preparedness Tax Holiday, Tools and Home Improvement Tax Holiday, Freedom Week Tax Holiday, and Energy Star Appliance Tax Holiday.
Tax Holiday
In June 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden called on Congress to provide a federal gas tax holiday for three months, through September.
He is also calling for state officials to take similar action to provide some relief to consumers.
There is a federal government tax charge of 18-cent per gallon for gasoline and 24-cent per gallon for diesel, which is then used to fund necessary highways and public transportation through the Highway Trust Fund.
Biden made the calls amid the time that gas prices are near $5 a gallon on average across the United States.
