Jennifer Lopez Drops Truth Bomb on Madonna-Spears 2003 VMAs Kiss
Jennifer Lopez has responded to rumors that she, not Christina Aguilera, was meant to perform a tribute to Madonna with Britney Spears at the 2003 VMAs.
Lopez confirmed speculations that she had been recruited for Madonna's headline-making musical piece at the 2003 VMAs in a new interview with E! News, ahead of the streaming premiere of their upcoming Prime Video feature "Shotgun Wedding," on January 27.
She also explained her decision to drop out of the event, allowing Christina Aguilera to take her place.
"Yes, that is actually true," Lopez said. "I was filming a movie in Canada. We had met - me, her, and Britney - to do it at [Madonna's] home. I just couldn't get off the film, so we couldn't do it. Then they got Christina Aguilera, I think, to do it."
The news broke when E! asked Jennifer Lopez what her favorite karaoke song was, and she broke into a rendition of Madonna's 1984 hit "Like a Virgin," per Billboard.
"I didn't wind up doing it, but yeah, we had talked about it," she added. "I love Madonna, I'm a huge fan, I always have been."

Madonna and Britney Spears Iconic Kiss at 2003 VMAs
Spears and Aguilera opened the 2003 VMAs at Radio City Music Hall in New York City by performing Madonna's smash "Like a Virgin." Then Madonna took the stage to perform her then-new track "Hollywood."
Madonna took a garter from Aguilera's leg as Spears and Aguilera danced on either side of her, and then she kissed both open-mouthed.
However, the director cut to a sight of Spears' then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake in the audience, so most of the audience missed the Aguilera kiss, according to iHeart Radio.
Jennifer Lopez and Her New Album
Jennifer Lopez shocked fans on the 20th anniversary of her album "This Is Me...Then" by unveiling the title of her new album, "This Is Me... Now" on November 25, said E! News.
The singer posted footage of herself from her album cover in 2002, in which she removes her beanie and transforms into her current self-portrait while she sings as the video ends.
After releasing A.K.A. in 2014, this album is Jenifer Lopez's first in nearly a decade. According to an interview she gave to Vogue earlier this month, her new album is "kind of a culmination of who I am as a person and an artist."
Jennifer's new album will supposedly be a journal of "the emotional, spiritual, and psychological journey that she has taken over the past two decades." as stated in a press release.
Jennifer Lopez's new album, "This Is Me...Now," is set to release later this year, NBC New York reported.
Meanwhile, Britney Spears married Sam Asghari in June, and at her wild reception, she and Madonna recreated their legendary hot kiss from the 2003 VMAs, The Daily Mail noted.
At the extravagant celebration held at her £7.4 million LA estate, singer Britney Spears, now 41, and music icon Madonna, 63, locked lips.
Britney Spears had swapped her gorgeous sweeping white gown for a short red dress to show off her legs.
In a recent Instagram Live broadcast, Madonna dropped hints that she wants to reenact the controversial on-stage kiss.
During the live interview to promote her music, Madonna was asked if she would ever conduct another world tour. She responded, "Hell yeah! Got to stay young, baby."
