Paul Pelosi Attack Video Shows Nancy Pelosi's Husband and Intruder Fight Over Weapon
Paul Pelosi's attack video was released Friday by a San Francisco court. Footage shows the moment before the intruder, David DePape, struck the husband of then-speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi with a hammer in the couple's home.
According to The New York Times, released police body camera footage shows the seconds when DePape, wielding a hammer, attacked Pelosi in the foyer of their home in Pacific Heights in the early hours of October 28, 2022.
The court also released a recording of a 911 call made by Pelosi shortly after the intruder broke in and awakened him.
Pelosi, 82, called 911 for assistance at 2:23 a.m., with the San Francisco Police body camera footage showing an officer arriving at the house at 2:31 a.m.
The former House Speaker's husband hung up with the 911 operator as DePape was pressuring him to do so, as heard in the captured audio of the call.
The intruder led Pelosi from the bathroom back into the bedroom. The attack on Pelosi occurs out of the camera's view, with one of the officers rushing into the house and jumping on DePape.
Pelosi was lying face down in his own pool of blood. The release of the footage comes after a state court judge ruled that there was no reason to keep the video secret.
Paul Pelosi Attack
Paul Pelosi can be heard in the footage asking the man, "what's going on, man?" and told the suspect to drop the hammer, according to The Guardian.
However, David DePape said "nope" and swung it and hits Pelosi in the head. Pelosi suffered a skull fracture and injured his hand and arm in the attack. It also required him to undergo surgery.
He recovered from his injuries but was hospitalized for nearly a week. DePape is facing multiple federal and state charges, including attempted murder, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon.
The former House Speaker was in Washington at the time and flew back to California.
David DePape
David DePape has previously pleaded not guilty to all federal and state charges tied to the October attack.
The criminal complaint against him in federal court noted that he said he was going to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage and talk to her. He added that if Nancy were to tell him the truth, he would let her go.
However, if she lied, he would break "her kneecaps." He was certain that the former House Speaker would not have told the truth.
DePape reportedly viewed Pelosi as the "leader of the pack" of lies told by the Democratic Party.
Police reportedly found DePape with a backpack, tape, white rope, a hammer, a pair of gloves, and a journal. It was revealed that the 42-year-old intruder had an obsession with "far-right media, conspiracy theories, and QAnon."
An interrogator asked DePape if he regretted his actions, to which he answered "no" and "it needed to be done." DePape is set to return to the San Francisco court in February.
