George Santos Campaign Donors Do Not Seem to Exist, Report Says
Embattled New York Rep. George Santos is facing an investigation into his campaign finances after claiming that he donated money to his campaign. However, a report conducted by Mother Jones has revealed that some of the top donors who contributed to his campaign may not even be real.
The Republican reported that a Victoria Regor and a Jonathan Regor each contributed $2,800 to his campaign when he ran for Congress last year. Their address was listed as 45 New Mexico Street in Jackson Township, New Jersey. However, the outlet did some digging and found that no such people exist.
Mother Jones searched various databases and found that nobody in the United States is named Victoria or Jonathan Regor. They also found nobody with those names living at 45 New Mexico Street in Jackson, as they found out that the address itself also does not exist.
Another donor, Stephen Berger, reportedly donated $2,500 to the embattled congressman's campaign. The campaign's report lists him as a retiree who lived on Brandt Road in Brawley, California. However, a prominent Republican donor, William Brandt, told Mother Jones that he owns that property and neither he nor his wife have ever made any donations to Santos. He also said that he does not know any Stephen Berger or anybody by that name who has lived on Brandt Road.
It is illegal to use a false name whenever one donates to a political campaign, as it will be in direct violation of federal campaign finance laws. Mother Jones also tried contacting dozens more of these Santos donors listed in his report. They could not verify the identity of some of these so-called donors.

Campaign Finance Regulator Asks George Santos Who Is Running His Political Accounts
The Federal Election Commission is now looking into the House Republican's campaign finances, with the U.S. campaign regulatory body stating that five committees affiliated with him may have "failed to include the true, correct, or complete treasurer information."
The Santos campaign passed a flurry of amended quarterly filings on Tuesday, all of which were signed by his longtime campaign treasurer Nancy Marks. However, on Wednesday, Politico reported that more filings were passed, but they were signed by Tom Datwyler, a treasurer for many Republican candidates.
This throws things into confusion, as a lawyer of Datwyler said that the treasurer has not agreed to work for the Santos campaign. The lawyer also said that "the Wednesday filings reflected a miscommunication."
Santos denied any involvement in any of the amended filings, saying he did not touch any of his FEC filings.
George Santos Could Be Expelled from Congress
Despite mounting controversies, from his lies to his being a former drag queen to his most recent campaign finance investigations, George Santos refuses to resign. However, ABC News pointed out that the investigations surrounding him may have some serious consequences.
The U.S. Constitution has a provision that allows both chambers of Congress to remove any seated member if that member engaged in "disorderly behavior." In the House, this requires a two-thirds vote. With a close margin in the numbers of Democrats and Republicans, it would mean that it would only need 1/3 of Republicans to kick him out, and several of them have already called on him to resign.
