5 Facts You Might Not Know About Rihanna

There is much hype about Rihanna's return as she is regarded as one of the biggest music superstars worldwide. Here are some interesting facts that you may not know about her.

How Much She Was Paid for Her Super Bowl 57 Halftime Show Performance

A pop superstar like Rihanna would have to be paid big bucks to come out of her hiatus, but as it turned out, she was not even paid a single penny. According to The U.S. Sun, Apple reportedly paid $250 million for the rights to the Super Bowl 57 halftime show for the next five years. However, they won't be paying the "Umbrella" singer anything.

Artists performing at the Super Bowl, regarded as the biggest TV event in the United States, will be given a $15 million budget to spend on production costs with up to 3,000 part-time workers, including set design, dancers, security, and marketing. However, more money is needed for some artists who want their shows to be as memorable as possible. Like other music artists, she also performs to receive something more valuable than cash, which is exposure.

Rihanna Was a Huge Critic of the NFL Before Performing for the Super Bowl

Before she agreed to do the Super Bowl, Rihanna had been rejecting offers to perform in it as she was a vocal critic of the NFL and expressed her solidarity with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who kneeled on the fields during the national anthem in 2016 in protest against police brutality and social injustices that black people face. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Barbadian singer had no interest in performing at the Super Bowl.

Rihanna Received Military Training in Barbados

While it is widely known that she is regarded as a national treasure in Barbados, few people know that Rihanna actually received military training in the island nation.

"My military training came in handy for learning to balance books on my head for the catwalk," she said in a previous interview.

Rihanna Had to Ban Umbrellas in Her Shows

According to Insider, following the release of "Umbrella," fans started bringing umbrellas to her concert. However, these became a security risk to her shows that she had to ban them, even though "Umbrella" had helped her become a pop superstar.

Rihanna Witnessed Several Exorcisms

During a 2011 interview, Rihanna reportedly noted that she had witnessed several exorcisms herself. While it is still unclear whether these happened in Barbados, she did say that one of her experiences happened at a church where a girl "went out of control," and everyone heard a "different voice." Barbados is known for beliefs surrounding voodoo, much like other countries in the Caribbean.
