Mexican Singer-Actor Julian Figueroa Dead at 27; Cause of Death Revealed by Mom
Costa Rican-Mexican actress Maribel Guardia is mourning the death of her 27-year-old son, Julian Figueroa, a Mexican singer and actor.
According to TODAY, Figueroa was Guardia's son with the late Joan Sebastian, an iconic Mexican singer. Guardia confirmed the death of the Mexican singer and Telenovela actor in an Instagram post on Sunday.
"I am sorry to have to announce the death of my beloved son Julián Figueroa, who has unfortunately preceded us in this life," Guardia wrote on Instagram in Spanish.
The 63-year-old actress said she was in a theater working when her son died. Guardia has asked for privacy and understanding amid her grieving. She added that she would like to talk to everyone trying to communicate with her but does not "have the strength to do it yet."
Figueroa was found unconscious in his Mexico City home on April 9. After hearing about Figueroa's death, several well-known figures took to social media to express their condolences to Guardia.
Born on May 2, 1995, Figueroa followed his father's footsteps by experimenting with the regional Mexican music genre. Before his death, he was working on releasing his first solo album and appearing in the "Mi Camino es Amarte" series.
Figueroa is survived by his wife, Ime Garza-Tuon, and their six-year-old son, Jose Julian Figueroa Garza. The Mexican singer was married to Garza-Tuon in 2017.
Tuon posted on Instagram on April 10, saying, "I love you forever. You leave me with my heart torn into a thousand pieces but also with many good memories and laughter; fly high, love."
In a statement to E! News, TelevisaUnivision, the production company behind "Mi Camino es Amarte," also paid tribute to the actor.
"TelevisaUnivision deeply regrets the passing of... Julian Figueroa and shares in the profound sadness that his family is experiencing... May he rest in peace," the production firm said.
Mexican Singer and Actor Julian Figueroa's Cause of Death
In her Instagram post, Maribel Guardia also revealed Julian Figueroa's cause of death.
Guardia, who lived with her son, said that after the Mexican singer was found "unconscious" inside his home, "they called 911, and when the ambulance and police arrived, they found him already lifeless, with no trace of violence."
The actress noted that the medical report indicated that Figueroa died of "an acute myocardial infarction and ventricular fibrillation," PEOPLE reported.
Johns Hopkins Medicine defines acute myocardial infarction as a heart attack, while ventricular fibrillation is a type of arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat, affecting the heart's ventricles.
Guardia said that funeral proceedings would be private. Figueroa, whose hits include "Volaré" and "Cómo Olvidar," was supposed to celebrate his 28th birthday on May 5.
After Trigo Figueroa's murder in 2006 and Juan Sebastián's murder in 2010, this is the third of Joan Sebastian's eight sons to die.
Julian Figueroa Shared a Tragic Post Before Passing
In his final social media post on Saturday, Julian Figueroa took to Instagram to remember the anniversary of his late father's birthday, Daily Mail reported.
"Eight years have passed since the day you departed, and time has moved so slowly that it tastes bitter," the Mexican singer wrote.
"And people say the time has to repair everything, but that is a filthy falsehood; each day it hurts more, and without worrying about hurting sensitivity, here they go," he continued.
He concluded: "To hell with the Grammys with the fame and the money because my only wish is to hold you... one more time."
