Selena Gomez, Pedro Pascal, Jenna Ortega, Other Latino Actors Who Might Get Emmy Noms
The upcoming Emmy nomination announcement is generating buzz for the Latino community as Selena Gomez, Pedro Pascal, Jenna Ortega, and others might get a nod for their respective performances. This would be big as this may mean that the next Emmys would have the biggest number of Latinos nominated for the prestigious awards.
The biggest contenders to be nominated are Pedro Pascal and Diego Luna, both known for their ties to the Star Wars franchise. However, according to Variety, "The Mandalorian" actor may be nominated for his role as Joel in HBO's "The Last of Us," while Luna might get nominated for his role as Cassian in the "Star Wars" prequel series "Andor."
Both may be battling for the Best Lead Actor in a Drama award, with Jimmy Smits being the only Latino actor to be recognized in the category, getting nominated for five consecutive years, from 1995-1999. He played Detective Bobby Simone on ABC's "NYPD Blue."
Meanwhile, Selena Gomez may be taking on Jenna Ortega for Best Lead Actress as both are considered front-runners for the comedy category. Gomez stars as Mabel in Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building," while Jenna Ortega may get nominated for her titular role in Netflix's "Wednesday." This might also be the first time that two Latinas are nominated in the same category for the Emmys.
These four are the clear favorites to get nominations, but others might also get a chance to be nominated, including Zoe Saldana for her role in Netflix's "From Scratch," as well as Andy Garcia in the HBO Max remake of "Father of the Bride."
