Indio Downey Drug Arrest: Will Robert Downey's Son Go to Rehab Following Narcotics Arrest? [Watch]
Like father, like son? That's the unavoidable reality surrounding 20-year-old Indio Downey, son of famed actor Robert Downey Jr., after he was picked up on a drug charge in West Hollywood, California over the weekend.
The elder Downey long struggled with drug addiction and had a particular affection for cocaine. Downey Jr. eventually got sober, but not before it cost him his long-term relationship with TV actress Sarah Jessica Parker and had him serve a prison bid.
Flash-forward to yesterday when Indio was busted for, you guessed it, what police seem to think is cocaine.
Us Weekly has more details surrounding the arrest. Per an official with the West Hollywood Sheriff's Department, on "Saturday afternoon around 2 pm, [Indio Downey] was a passenger in a car."
The official went on to say that, "It was stopped by a sheriff's deputy because it appeared he was using narcotics paraphernalia to ingest. He was stopped, investigated and found to be in possession of that paraphernalia and a controlled substance believed to be cocaine."
Indio was released on Sunday after he or a member of his family posted $10,000 bail.
It's not yet clear if a court date has been set or what will become of this incident.
Downey Jr. issued a statement in support of his eldest son and linked his very public battle with addiction to his son's current predicament.
"Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it."
The "Iron Man" and "Avengers" actor said in a statement to Us, "There is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being. ... We're grateful to the Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."
There is great hope though that Indio will put this all behind him and continue on with his burgeoning music and acting career. But only time and sustained effort on the part of Indio will make that happen.
