'The Donald Trump Show Is Over' as Ex-POTUS Flees New York in the Middle of His Fraud Trial
After getting scolded by the judge for spreading fake news about a court clerk, Donald Trump left New York in the middle of the third day of his fraud trial. This abrupt exit prompted New York Attorney General Letitia James to say, "The Donald Trump show is over."
New York Judge Arthur Engoron has already issued a summary judgment against Donald Trump, his two adult sons, Eric and Don Jr., and the Trump Organization, liable for fraud. The hearings are only to determine how much the defendants will be fined for their crimes.
Before leaving New York, Trump attacked James and called her a "political animal." However, James stood defiant and said, "I will not be bullied."
She then added, "This was nothing more than a political stunt, a fundraising stop."
Trump used the trial to urge his donors to give him more money, sending fundraising emails as soon as Judge Engoron issued his summary judgment.
According to CNBC, the ex-POTUS claimed that James's lawsuit was political in nature and was "designed to hurt his chances of winning the 2024 presidential election." However, James blasted him, saying Mr. Trump's comments were offensive and "baseless," adding that his arguments "were void of any facts and or any evidence."
"This case was brought simply because it was a case where individuals have engaged in a pattern and practice of fraud," said the New York Attorney General. "I will not sit idly by and allow anyone to subvert the law."
Trump reportedly flew to Florida but was griping that he was "stuck here" before leaving New York.
"I'd rather be right now in Iowa, I'd rather be in New Hampshire or South Carolina or Ohio or a lot of other places, but I'm stuck here because I have a corrupt attorney general," he complained.
Donald Trump Continues Blasting Judge Despite Limited Gag Order
In his pre-trial ruling, Judge Arthur Engoron also took away the business licenses of various Trump corporate entities and ordered their dissolution. He also took away the business licenses of the former president and his two adult sons.
Before leaving in the middle of the third day of the trial, Trump blasted not just Judge Engoron but also the US legal system. NBC News noted that the former president was not obliged to be at the New York courthouse as this was a civil trial.
However, he still attended but continued attacking the judge despite the limited gag order. Trump, without any proof, complained that the court was "run by the Democrats" and "already knows what he's going to do." He then added, "Our whole system is corrupt."
Second Trump Accountant Admits Trump Family Was Responsible for Own Financial Statements
The prosecution of the Donald Trump fraud trial called in a second Trump Organization accountant to testify, Cameron Harris. He works for Whitley Penn, which succeeded Mazars as the Trumps's accounting firm.
Much like the first accountant, Donald Bender, Harris also testified that it was the Trumps who were making their own financial statements instead of the accountants. This corroborated the first accountants' statements, further enhancing the allegations of fraud against the Trump family.
Harris also revealed that it was Eric Trump who "set the tone at the top" of the Trump Organization. The accountant was then asked, "Who's responsible for the statement of financial condition?" To this, he replied, "The client's responsible for that."
