As the battle to be the next Speaker of the House heats up, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan gets two massive endorsements from Donald Trump and Rep. Nancy Mace. However, the latter is getting criticism over it as she claims to be an advocate against sexual abuse, and Jim Jordan is infamously tied to one of Ohio's biggest sexual abuse scandals.

During an interview, Mace, who helped topple Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker, was asked if she had any reservations about endorsing Jim Jordan despite being an outspoken defender against sexual assault.

However, according to Rolling Stone Magazine, Mace just claimed that she did not know about Jim Jordan's ties to an Ohio State University sexual assault case where the now-Republican congressman willfully ignored reports of sexual abuse being done while serving as a wrestling coach in that school.

"Yeah, I'm not familiar or aware with that," the South Carolina Republican said in that interview. "He's not indicted on anything that I'm aware of. And so I don't, I don't know anything, and I can't speak to that."

She then added, "What I do know is that I've been a very strong voice for women. I've talked to Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise about that. I've been a very strong advocate for rape victims."

Jordan himself has not been indicted of sexual abuse. He was named as a co-defendant in the case against former OSU doctor Richard Strauss, who was behind several instances of sexual abuse in the school for decades. Jordan, who served as an assistant wrestling coach, denied knowing that there was abuse, but six former OSU wrestlers have said Jordan was aware but failed to act.

Mace is supposed to be one of the rare Republicans supportive of women's rights, as she was a rape victim herself. Her endorsement of Jordan has gotten her flak from the people she is working with on issues regarding sexual assault.

Donald Trump Highly Supportive of Jim Jordan as House Speaker

Donald Trump, who was also found liable for sexual abuse in the case filed by journalist E. Jean Carroll, endorsed Jim Jordan.

"He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House," said the former president, adding that the former OSU wrestling coach "has my complete & total endorsement!"

Trump also claimed that Jordan has "been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington" and added, "He is a STRONG on Crime, Borders, our Military/Vets, & 2nd Amendment."

The BBC has pointed out that Jordan has been one of Trump's most vocal defenders in the House and a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, a disruptive far-right and hardline group. Their group has been called by more moderate Republicans as "legislative terrorists."

Former Ohio State University Students Say Jim Jordan Knew About the Sexual Abuse and Ignored It

While Jordan has repeatedly denied he knew anything, students are saying otherwise, with former OSU wrestler Adam DiSabato calling the former assistant coach a liar during one hearing.

The former OSU student, who was one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against OSU, stated in that hearing that Jordan contacted him repeatedly in July 2018 regarding the sexual abuse.

According to Cleveland.com, DiSabato stated, "Jim Jordan called me crying, groveling... begging me to go against my brother...That's the kind of cover-up that's going on there,

Jordan's ties to the sexual abuse happening at the university has earned him the nickname "Gym Jordan."
