Will Smith Reacts to Jada Pinkett Smith's Memoir Confessions
Will Smith has offered his first response to Jada Pinkett Smith's revelations in her recently released memoir, "Worthy," a book she has been actively promoting in the media, according to Deadline.
In an email sent to The New York Times, Smith acknowledged that the book's revelations had a significant impact on him.
He expressed that he now sees Pinkett Smith as more "resilient, clever, and compassionate" than he had previously understood, recognizing that she had led a more adventurous life than he had realized.
In his email, Smith reflected on the challenge of maintaining sensitivity and understanding in a long-term relationship, explaining, "When you've been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in."
He recognized the potential to lose sight of the subtle nuances and hidden beauties in a partner over time.
Jada Pinkett Smith, for her part, indicated that their relationship is evolving and that divorce is not on the horizon.
She shared her thoughts on their journey, mentioning a point in 2016 when they felt exhausted with trying and were caught up in unattainable fantasies of who they thought the other should be.
She made a promise never to let their relationship lead to divorce and emphasized her commitment to working through challenges.
Will Smith Writes Letter to Jay Shetty, Sharing His Thoughts on Wife's Book
Will Smith also expressed his thoughts on Jada Pinkett Smith's memoir in a letter penned for Jay Shetty's podcast, "On Purpose," where Jada was recently a guest to discuss her upcoming book, per Yahoo! Life.
"I applaud and honor you. If I had read this book 30 years ago, I definitely would've hugged you more," read the letter. "I'll start now. Welcome to the Authors Club," Shetty said, continuing to read the letter. "I love you endlessly. Now go get some Merlot and take a rest."
Jada appreciated the sentiment and humorously noted that his message was one of the reasons she could not divorce him.
Jada Pinkett Smith's Bombshell Revelation
Among the revelations in Jada Pinkett Smith's memoir is the disclosure that she and Will Smith had been separated for the past seven years.
She also mentioned that Chris Rock asked her out in 2016 when he believed she and Smith were separated, although they were not, HuffPost noted.
Jada addressed the incident at the 2022 Academy Awards, where Smith slapped Rock after a joke at her expense.
She noted that they had not referred to each other as husband and wife in a long time, and the incident took her by surprise.
Both Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith faced backlash for the Academy Awards incident, with Jada explaining that she was not surprised to be blamed, as she had been portrayed as the adulteress following revelations of her involvement with August Alsina during her marriage to Smith.
She pointed out that, in human nature, people often seek someone to blame when examining such situations.
