In a TikTok video posted from the hospital, the 43-year-old actress humorously referred to the situation as a "SickTok," confirming her recent lung cancer surgery.

Micucci assured her followers that the medical team successfully removed the cancer, emphasizing the importance of catching it early, per DEADLINE.

"I had lung cancer surgery yesterday. It's really weird because I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, so, you know, it was a surprise. But I guess it happens, and so the greatest news is they caught it early, they got it out - I'm all good," said Kate Micucci while in the hospital.

Non-Smokers and Lung Cancer

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 10-20% of lung cancer diagnoses occur in non-smokers or those with minimal smoking history. This equates to 20,000 to 40,000 cases annually, FOX News reports.

Contributing factors include secondhand smoke, radon exposure, air pollution, asbestos, arsenic, silica, chromium, and family history.

The CDC notes that symptoms of lung cancer, such as coughing, chest pain, wheezing, or shortness of breath, can manifest in both smokers and non-smokers alike.

Kate Micucci's experience serves as a reminder that lung cancer awareness should extend beyond smoking, emphasizing the need for early detection and understanding of the various risk factors associated with the disease.
