Wimbledon Tennis 2014 Scores, Results, Video Highlights: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic Advance, Andy Murray Falls to Grigor Dimitrov
Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria dethroned reigning Wimbledon champion Andy Murray after scoring a straight-set win in their quarter-final showdown on Wednesday.
Dimitrov had a strong start as he stunned Murray, including the home crowd on the Centre Court, en route to an impressive 6-1, 7-6 (4), 6-2 win, which made him the first Bulgarian to reach the semifinals of a major event.
The 11th-seeded tennis star was on target for the entire match as he broke Murray five times, while also serving 10 aces in the match. After the match, Dimitrov said that he just took advantage of Murray's lackluster start, which gave him confidence for the entire showdown.
"As soon as we started warming up I sensed that his game was not at the highest level but at the same time I was feeling pretty confident," Dimitrov said via ESPN. "The first set really helped me get into a good rhythm and then I was just holding my ground throughout the whole match."
Djokovic's play was a far cry from the form that helped him win his last 17 games at the All-England Club, which includes his successful run in the 2012 London Olympics.
With the win, Dimitrov arranged a semi-final showdown with top-seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who scored a hard-earned win against Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals.
Djokovic squeaked past Cilic in a five-setter 6-1, 3-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 to march on to his 16th semi-final appearance in his last 17 grand slam events.
In the other quarterfinal match, fourth-seeded Roger Federer also booked a spot in the final four after scoring a 3-6, 7-6 (5). 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win against Stan Wawrinka.
Federer, who has only dropped a set in this year's Wimbledon, is looking to win his eighth Wimbledon title, and 18th grand slam title.
