California: 78-Year-Old Woman Arrested After a Crash that Injures an Infant, Kills 3, Including a Toddler
The California woman, Mary Fong Lau, a 78-year-old driver involved in a devastating crash at a San Francisco bus stop over the weekend, has been arrested for vehicular manslaughter and multiple other charges, according to police sources.
The California crash resulted in the tragic deaths of a couple and their toddler, with only their infant surviving critical injuries.
Jail records indicate that Lau was arrested Sunday afternoon on charges including vehicular manslaughter, reckless driving, driving the wrong way on a divided road, and driving at an unsafe speed.
The crash occurred near West Portal station, where the victims, a California family of four, were on an outing to celebrate their parents' wedding anniversary.
While the driver was also hospitalized after the crash, some witnesses suggested she may have experienced a medical issue prior to the collision, though police have not confirmed this speculation, CBS News reports.
San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins stated that there is probable cause to arrest a California woman, Mary Fon Lau, with investigations ongoing.

Fatal California Crash Details and Ongoing Investigations
The fatal accident transpired shortly after noon on Saturday when a California woman, allegedly driving a Mercedes SUV, veered onto the sidewalk at the intersection of Ulloa Street and Lennox, according to SF Gate.
Two people, an adult and a child, died at the scene, and three others, including the driver, were injured.
The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) reported on Sunday afternoon that one of the injured, a woman, had also died, while an infant remained hospitalized.
District Attorney Jenkins emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, with authorities gathering evidence, including a toxicology report for Lau and an examination of her vehicle for potential mechanical issues.
Jenkins confirmed that the police had probable cause to arrest Mary Fong Lau based on preliminary evidence.
Currently, her office is receiving case information and evidence from the police department.
She acknowledges the public's eagerness for updates on the case's outcome but requests patience as investigators gather more information, enabling her office to make informed charging decisions.
The deceased California family members were identified as Diego Oliveira, his wife Matilde, and their toddler Joaquin, with their infant son Caue remaining hospitalized.
Vigil Held for Victims Amidst Griefs
At a solemn vigil held for the victims, friends and community members mourned the loss of the Oliveira family, expressing profound condolences to their loved ones, KTVU noted.
The tragic incident has left the neighborhood deeply shaken, with heartfelt sympathies extended to all affected by the devastating California crash.
Authorities are still probing the circumstances leading to the collision, particularly why Lau's vehicle crossed onto the sidewalk, striking a bus stop and eventually crashing into a pole, fire hydrant, and the West Portal branch library.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials seek to unravel the events surrounding this heartbreaking tragedy.
