Donald Trump Falsely Claims on Fox News That He Did Not Do 'Lock Her Up' Chants Against Hillary Clinton
With a jury finding him guilty and people chanting "Lock Him Up," convicted felon Donald Trump is now denying ever leading "Lock Her Up" chants against former election opponent, Hillary Clinton during and after the 2016 election campaign while talking to Fox News.
The "Lock Her Up" chants against Clinton essentially became one of the most popular chants at Trump rallies even after he won the presidency. Opponents are now using the chants against him, turning it into "Lock Him Up" after he was found guilty by a jury of his peers.
The former president appeared in a 90-minute softball interview with Fox News's "Fox & Friends Weekend" on Sunday. This was his first interview since being found guilty of all 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.
During that interview, which raised eyebrows because of the former president being apparently incoherent and Fox News reportedly trying to hide that incoherency by heavily editing the footage before airing it, Fox host Will Cain brought up Trump's calls of "lock her up" during his 2016 rallies.
In his answer, Trump claimed that he never joined in on these chants. However, footage from those rallies has shown that he did and was even egging them on, In one instance, 16, Trump responded "'Lock her up' is right" while the crowd was chanting it during an October 2016 rally. He repeated this during a January 2020 rally, according to Forbes.
Trump also told the Fox News hosts that he "could have" jailed Hillary Clinton if he wanted to but claimed, "I felt it would have been a terrible thing. But then this happened to me," though unlike him, there was no crime tied to what Clinton did and she was never charged, even by his Justice Department as they could not find a reason to charge her despite repeated Republican-led Congressional inquiries that resulted in nothing.
Donald Trump Talks About Melania Trump Missing in His Court Appearances During Fox News Interview
During that same Fox News interview, Trump was also asked about Melania and why she was never present during the six-week-long court proceedings. However, according to Salon, he brushed the issue off.
"I have a wonderful wife who has to listen to this stuff all the time," he told the hosts. "She's fine. I think it's very tough on her, but she's fine."
Donald Trump Would Not Answer Fox News Host's Question Regarding His Dictatorial Tendencies
Despite the interview being mostly a softball one, Donald Trump was also asked about his vow to use the Department of Justice to enact revenge against his political opponents should he win. However, he declined to answer, saying, "I'm not sure I can answer the question."
This comes as democracy advocates are ringing the alarm about Trump becoming a dictator after promising he would use his Department of Justice to go after his opponents "on Day One."
