Weeks after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg won his case against Donald Trump in the porn star hush money trial, where the former president was found guilty of all 32 charges, Trump's allies in the House Judiciary Committee now want to grill him.

Bragg has now agreed to testify before the Republican-led committee, along with Manhattan prosecutor Matthew Colangelo, who made a name for himself in the Trump trial that led to the former president's guilty verdict. Colangelo was also a former DOJ official for the Biden administration, and Republicans are following a conspiracy theory that his involvement in the case was proof that Biden was behind the trial.

As Reuters noted, the hearing will give Trump allies a chance to rail against the Donald Trump porn star hush money trial and its subsequent guilty verdict. Republicans have repeatedly claimed without solid evidence that the trial was a politically motivated effort by Bragg under orders from Biden to interfere with the 2024 elections in November. Legally, the Republicans do not have much legal ground to stand on, say experts.

However, as the trial has shown, the charges brought against Trump were indeed backed by evidence and testimony by people who were once close to the former president and now-convicted felon.

"It undermines the rule of law to spread dangerous misinformation," said a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. "Nonetheless, we respect our government institutions and plan to appear voluntarily before the subcommittee."

While Republicans claim that the Biden DOJ, which recently successfully prosecuted presidential son, Hunter Biden, is behind Bragg, it should be noted that local prosecutors, such as the Manhattan DA, operate independently of the Justice Department.

"The conspiracy theory that the recent jury verdict in New York state court was somehow controlled by the Department is not only false, it is irresponsible," wrote Assistant t Attorney General Carlos Uriarte in a letter to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, who previously ducked a congressional subpoena over January 6.

Uriarte pointed out that "there is no evidence showing any coordination between the federal government and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg" and that they conducted a "comprehensive" search for communications between the department and the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

"We found none. This is unsurprising," the DOJ official wrote. "The District Attorney's Office is a separate entity from the Department. The Department does not supervise the work of the District Attorney's Office, does not approve its charging decisions, and does not try its cases."

Donald Trump Vows To Appeal Guilty Verdict

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has been loud regarding his guilty verdict, and during his recent rally in Arizona, he vowed that he would challenge it on the appeals courts and promised that he would reverse his felony conviction, according to ABC News.

"Those appellate courts have to step up and straighten things out or we're not going to have a country anymore," he told his supporters, who turned out in droves despite the searing heat. This is in contrast to the masses of protesters that often follow him around in New York.
