Boxer Ryan Garcia has now announced his retirement after the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) suspended him for one year in addition to other penalties. This came after he repeatedly failed doping tests after his fight against rival Devin Haney.

After his suspension due to his doping scandal, Ryan Garcia took to X, formerly Twitter, to announce without any explanation, "I'm officially retired."

Testing done by the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory has shown that Garcia's doping control forms showed the presence of the banned substance ostarine. His attorneys claimed that he failed these tests due to "supplement contamination" as two of his favorite supplements contain that banned substance that is linked to enhancing an athlete's performance.

According to Bleacher Report, those supplements that Garcia was taking were NutraBIO super carb raspberry lemonade and strawberry-flavored Body Health Perfect Amino. Both have been detected with the performance-enhancing ostracine.

Garcia's win over Haney was considered one of the biggest upsets in the sport of boxing this year, as he knocked the heavy-favorite WBC welterweight champion Devin Haney thrice to win. However, because of the doping scandal, the belt stayed with Haney before Garcia failed yet another doping test, leading to his suspension and then retirement announcement.

What Is Ryan Garcia's Punishment for the Doping Scandal During the Devin Haney Fight

After the WBC Super-Lightweight World Title fight against Haney, Garcia had been acting erratically, from serenading one of the supplements that was responsible for his downfall to getting himself arrested.

In the New York State Athletic Commission's settlement agreement with Garcia's team, the Latino boxer will be banned from the sport for one year. In addition, he will l also forfeit his $1.1 million contracted purse and will also have to pay a fine of $10,000.

The fight was also ruled a no contest and this removed Garcia's win from any record and also wiped away Haney's loss. In response to this, Garcia claimed that there had been corruption in his doping tests but this was soon contradicted by his own lawyers who revealed that two of his supplements did contain the banned substance.

Following his retirement announcement, Garcia's erratic behavior continued as he tried to give more excuses regarding the doping scandal, posting, "Mom has cancer... I'm being sued... My supplements were tainted... Going thru a divorce... Devin asking for my victory to be taken away... I'm getting hit with everything,."

Devin Haney's Father Responds to Ryan Garcia Retirement Announcement

Bill Haney, the father and trainer of Devin Haney, soon responded to Ryan Garcia, saying, "This don't surprise me that Ryan Garcia is talking about that he's retired and he's not going to stand up for his fate in 48 hours."

"Everybody's been protecting him. We know these channels, you seem to celebrate guys on drugs in the ring. But, you're running out of time," added the elder Haney. "In 48 hours your boy, Ryan Garcia, will be suspended and you networks, promoters, and everybody that's been trying to protect him, you're going to go down with the shit. Mark my words."
