Despite claims by right-wing politicians, media, and pundits, the numbers along the US-Mexico border are actually going down since Joe Biden's border crackdown started. This is backed by actual numbers from Border Patrol that showed migrants are down by 25% since Biden announced the new asylum restrictions.

Border Patrol recently released their latest numbers for people illegally crossing into the United States and it showed that in May, these numbers fell to the third lowest of any month during the Biden presidency. Much of the drop happened during the roughly two weeks since the president announced his new asylum restrictions.

The migrant encounter numbers obtained by the Associated Press noted that Border Patrol made 117,900 arrests of people entering the country between the official border crossing points along the US-Mexico border for the month of May. This is 9% lower than in April, and it also shows that since Biden announced the asylum restrictions, the number of arrests has fallen by 25%.

The Biden administration seems to be happy with these numbers as they challenge Republicans' claims that he is not doing much to control the wave of migration coming into the US-Mexico border. Even with these claims, Biden has been working with other governments, such as Mexico and Guatemala, to help slow down the migrants.

"Our enforcement efforts are continuing to reduce southwest border encounters. But the fact remains that our immigration system is not resourced for what we are seeing," said acting CBP Head Troy A. Miller in a statement.

Under Biden, the US is pressuring Mexico to enact stiffer penalties for migrants traveling to the US-Mexico border. This pressure has made Mexico bus migrants who have been deported to the south of the country, further frustrating them and forcing many to give up on making it to the US.

Joe Biden Receives Praise for Actions on the US-Mexico Border

Meanwhile, the lowered numbers have earned Biden the praise of New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, who hailed the president's s "balanced approach" in toughening security at the border while also ensuring protections for undocumented immigrants.

According to Politico, Grisham appeared on CBS News's "Face the Nation" and stated that what Biden did is "very important" for a border state like New Mexico, "where risks are present every day" related to "human trafficking, drugs, guns, and other contraband."

Donald Trump Continues Fearmongering Against Joe Biden About US-Mexico Border Without Evidence

While Biden has the numbers to prove he is, in fact, doing something, his top rival for the presidency, former president and convicted felon Donald Trump, continues his fearmongering tactics by claiming migrants are out to get Americans.

During a rally in Philadelphia, the former president claimed that "Biden's open borders have allowed thousands of illegal immigrants to pour into America, leading to a surge of violent crime in its major cities, hurting Black and Hispanic populations the most," claiming that only he can fix it.

"Few communities have suffered more under the Biden regime than Philadelphia," he said without proof. "Under Crooked Joe, the City of Brotherly Love is being ravaged by bloodshed and crime."
