After years of calling President Joe Biden incompetent, former president Donald Trump is changing his tone as their upcoming debate approaches. Meanwhile, a new poll shows that an overwhelming number of younger voters are showing that they prefer Biden over his convicted felon rival.

A new poll by CBS News/YouGov surveyed voters under 30 years old and found that around 61% of them support Joe Biden while only 38% support Donald Trump, with the top issues they are concerned with include abortion, climate change, and race and diversity issues.

Around 57% of the younger voters in that poll have said that abortion is a major factor in their vote, according to The Hill. This hurts Trump, who has continued to brag that his Supreme Court appointments helped in overturning Roe V. Wade.

One of the big reasons that Biden is also winning over the 18-29-year age group was canceling student loans, with a massive 72% approving of the president's actions to just 28% disapproving.

Both Biden and Trump have been courting the youth vote, though that demographic has shown concerns about their respective ages as Biden is now 81 while Trump is already 78. Trump has repeatedly painted Biden to be a meandering old man, though he is only 3 years younger than the president.

Trump also has his own cognitive abilities thrown into question with several recent gaffes that he had also been blaming Biden for doing, including getting the name of his doctor wrong just one sentence after challenging his rival to do a cognitive test.

Donald Trump Changes Tactics As Debate Against Joe Biden Approaches

Donald Trump has had conflicting depictions of Joe Biden throughout the years, with the former president either claiming Biden to be a senile old fool or a criminal mastermind behind his recent legal troubles. However, as the debate approaches, Donald Trump is now trying to paint Biden as a "worthy opponent."

"I assume he's going to be somebody that will be a worthy debater," said the former president during an appearance on "The All-In" podcast last week. "I don't want to underestimate him."

As the Associated Press noted, this is a sharp contrast to what he usually calls the incumbent, as he usually calls Biden a "low-IQ individual" who is "the worst, most incompetent, and most corrupt president" in the nation's history, even making fun of the president appearing lost on stage.

This is part of his efforts to adjust expectations ahead of the debate on Thursday, with Trump and his allies already presenting Biden as being "drugged" to "perform better" as Biden might upend their "senile old man" rhetoric by performing well against their candidate who has his own cognitive issues to deal with.

Donald Trump Classified Documents Prosecutor Clashes with Judge Over Gag Order Request

Meanwhile, as Trump is preparing for his debate, the former president is also facing more criminal charges, this time in federal court over the classified documents case. However, Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump-appointed judge accused of being biased and delaying procedures intentionally, has recently been clashing with prosecutors over a gag order against the former president.

Special counsel Jack Smith's team is trying to prohibit Trump from remarks that could endanger FBI agents participating in the case, as the former president usually has his supporters act on his rants and threaten or attack the people testifying against him.

According to the Associated Press, Cannon questioned prosecutors if her gag order would not impede on the former president's s free speech rights and whether FBI agents were sufficiently protected if their names were withheld from court documents. It resulted in a tense exchange between both parties.
