NBA Rumors: Chris Paul to San Antonio, James Harden Stays, and Teams Battling for Klay Thompson
Several big NBA signings have been rumored, with Chris Paul being waived by the Warriors and James Harden choosing to stay with the Clippers. Meanwhile, Klay Thompson is looking for his next team, as he is now a free agent.
Chris Paul may soon be taking Lob City to San Antonio as he may soon be partnering up with French big man Victor Wembanyama soon after he was waived by the Golden State Warriors, with the veteran guard now being set to sign with the San Antonio Spurs.
According to the NBA's official website, the 39-year-old point guard is still on a quest to win his first ring. He was entering the final year of his contract with the Warriors, and it was not a guaranteed contract.
However, Paul will reportedly sign a one-year contract with Greg Popovich's crew worth $11 million. Last season, he averaged 9.2 points and 6.8 assists while shooting 44.1% for the Warriors in its failed campaign to make it to the Playoffs this year.
In San Antonio, the 19-year veteran is expected to complement the big Frenchman as Paul's passing and pick-and-roll play have amplified several All-Star big men throughout his long career, as he worked very well with the likes of David West, Tyson Chandler, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan.
Paul is also expected to mentor the Spus' newly-drafted guard Stephon Castle, who was the fourth overall pick for the 2024 NBA Draft, as the San Antonio Spurs aim to make it to the Playoffs for the first time since 2019.
Reports Say James Harden Returning to the Los Angeles Clippers
Meanwhile, another NBA free agent looks to be staying with his current team as James Harden will reportedly re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers on a two-year deal worth $70 million. This comes as small forward Paul George, the Clippers' other star, decided to opt out of his current contract.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Harden is a Los Angeles native and helped lead the Clippers to the Playoffs. However, he and the team failed to reach the second round.
"We think James has been terrific for us when we obtained him five games into the season," said Los Angeles Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank. "Thought he had a terrific season. ... He's been great in terms of even the offseason, coming in, working out, coming in two-a-days, getting extra work in."
Possible NBA Teams That Could Land Klay Thomson Next Season
Klay Thompson has also hit free agency after the Warriors failed to even make it to the Playoffs this year. While the team is certainly trying to make him stay, even electing to waive Chris Paul to clear space for him to re-sign, other teams are already on the prowl and ready to snatch him up.
The relationship between the Warriors and Thompson has been stormy as Golden State's frequent attempts to replace Thompson via draft picks may be pushing the former NBA champion out. If he chooses not to sign with the team, he may soon go to other squads, including teaming with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers or with James Harden and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Thomson could also potentially sign with the Dallas Mavericks, as well as the Denver Nuggets, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Orlando Magic, and the Philadelphia 76ers.
