Donald Trump Denies Connections with Project 2025 Despite His Top Advisors Being Part of It
Former president and convicted felon Donald Trump is washing his hands off his connections to the controversial Heritage Foundation plan called Project 2025, which outlines some radical conservative agendas and grants more power to Donald Trump, with a lot of controversial policies such as dismantling the Department of Education.
"I have no idea who is behind it," he claimed in a post on Truth Social. This is despite the fact that six of his former Cabinet secretaries were responsible for writing or collaborating in the making of the 900-page playbook for a second Trump term published by the Heritage Foundation.
Also part of Project 2025 are four of the ambassadors he nominated, as well as several enforcers of his controversial immigration crackdown, according to CNN, with the first 20 pages of the document being credited to his first deputy chief of staff.
While Trump says he denies knowing anybody involved in Project 2025, It was noted that at least 140 people who worked in the Trump administration had a hand in Project 2025. This includes over half of the people listed as authors, editors, and contributors to the project's manifesto, which aims to overhaul the executive branch and grant more powers to Donald Trump should he win the presidency.
There are nearly 240 people who have ties to both Project 2025 and to Trump, and this includes people with positions ranging from day-to-day foot soldiers in Washington to people in the highest levels of his inner circle, with CNN noting that the number is likely higher.
Project 2025 is planning to purge independent positions and replace them with Trump loyalists, therefore eliminating more checks and balances to presidential power.
It also aims to have stricter immigration policies. There are also plans to ban pornography, reverse federal approval of the abortion pill mifepristone, exclude the morning-after pill and men's contraceptives from coverage mandated under the Affordable Care Act, make it harder for transgender adults to transition, and eliminate the federal agency that oversees the National Weather Service.
What Is Project 2025 and Why Is it Bad for Donald Trump
The Trump administration had been hampered by these checks and balances and had been infamous for its various incompetencies. Project 2025 aimed to remedy that and place loyalists into positions where Donald Trump would have been challenged by more independent appointees.
The document that laid out the plans was made by the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation, which Donald Trump has repeatedly praised in the past despite saying he does not know who is behind Project 2025. It was unveiled back in 2023, with over 100 conservative organizations contributing to the document.
Some of the proposals in Project 2025, such as the ban on pornography and unchecked power on the president, as well as the dismantling of the Department of Education, are proving to be very unpopular.
