Wimbledon 2014 Scores, Results, Video Highlights: Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer Set Final Showdown
Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer made sure that there will be no upsets in the Wimbledon 2014 men's semifinals as the two tennis superstars won Friday against their respective opponents to advance to the finals.
Djokovic booked a spot in the finals with hard-earned 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (7) win against Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in the first semi-final match on Friday at the Centre Court.
The top-seeded Serb was a heavy favorite heading into the match, but Dimitrov proved why he is being touted as the next big thing in tennis, pushing Djokovic to the limits.
Dimitrov looked poised to force a fifth set after tallying a 6-3 lead in the fourth-set tiebreaker, but Djokovic turned the tables with four straight wins to take a 7-6 lead.
Dimitrov managed to force a 7-7 standoff in the highly-competitive tiebreaker before Djokovic closed the match with two straight excellent forehands to progress to his 14th Grand Slam final.
Djokovic, who won the tournament in 2011, will face Federer in the finals after the fourth-seeded Swiss had another impressive win, eliminating Milos Raonic of Canada in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
Federer, who will be playing in his 25th Grand Slam final and ninth Wimbledon final, continues to play well in the tournament, where he has only dropped one set, which came in the first set of his win against Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals.
Djokovic, who lost to Andy Murray in last year's final, knows that his road to his second Wimbledon title will not be a walk in the park, with Federer playing at peak form thus far in the tournament.
"This is where he has the most success in his career, winning many titles," Djokovic said of Federer via The New York Times. "He's been looking very good throughout the whole tournament, very dominant with his matches. I'm sure that he wants to win this title as much as I do."
The final showdown between Djokovic and Federer, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, is scheduled on Saturday.
