On Tuesday it was announced that Marvel character Thor will be a woman in the upcoming comic books.

The announcement came on an episode of ABC's "The View."

"Thor, the God of Thunder, he messed up," co-host Whoopi Goldberg said according to The Mary Sue. "He is no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his, and for the first time in history that hammer is being held by a woman."

"The View" hosts, who also revealed drawings of the new Thor, were impressed by her physical appearance.

"She's got super-powered boobies," Jenny McCarthy said.

"She is actually in better proportion than a lot of the female comic superheroes," Goldberg added.

"It gives girls something to look up to," Sherri Shepherd agreed.

According to Marvel, the female Thor will debut in October 2014.

"Marvel Comics will be introducing an all-new THOR, GOD OF THUNDER," Marvel said in a statement. "No longer is the classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjölnir, a brand new female hero will emerge will who will be worthy of the name THOR."

Marvel also acknowledged the continuity error a female Thor creates, as the inscription on Thor's signature hamemr states "Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor," but Wil Moss, Marvel editor, believes this is outdated.

"... it's time to update that inscription," Moss said in the statement. "The new Thor continues Marvel's proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn't a temporary female substitute -- she's now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!"

Details about the new Thor, such as her place of origin and what she has to do with the land of Asgard, have not yet been revealed.

"This is not She-Thor," Jason Aaron, series writer, said in the statement. "This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before."

According to Marvel, they hope to target women and girls, a group they say used to not get much attention previously, with the new Thor. The upcoming series will reportedly be the "eighth title to feature a lead female protagonist," according to Marvel's statement.
