The final day of the 2014 Major League Baseball trade deadline is officially here, and the possibility for some major game-changing trades is still close to happening.

All of the waiting will come to an end. There's still many trade rumors swirling around the league in both the American League and National League. The Oakland Athletics already made the biggest splash.

Red Sox and Athletics Involved in Blockbuster Trade

The defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox scratched pitcher Jon Lester from his scheduled start against the Toronto Blue Jays, a game which they lost 6-1. Multiple reports have reported that he has been traded to the Oakland Athletics, who already have the best record in all of baseball. The Athletics are 66-41 on the season and with Lester now on the team, it's championship or bust.

The Athletics also acquired Jonny Gomes, while the Red Sox received Yoenis Cespedes and a draft pick in return.

Don't Bet on David Price Being Traded

Price has been in trade rumors for weeks now, but it looks like the Tampa Bay Rays will keep their 28-year-old ace. The main reason is because of their recent hot streak. After looking like a bottom dweller team, the Rays are 8-2 in their last 10 games and playoff hopes are a possibility. Now that the Rays know they have a chance to make the postseason, it looks like Price is staying in Tampa Bay.

Rangers Interested in Giancarlo Stanton?

There's no deny that Stanton can hit the ball out of the ball park. However, he does strike out quite a bit and his batting average has never been above .300 in a season. The Texas Rangers have shown interest in the 24-year-old slugger, but it's still unknown how much the Miami Marlins want in return.

New York Yankees Not Making Huge Noise

It's pretty rare we don't see the Bronx Bombers heavily involved in the trade mix. The hefty contracts of C.C. Sabathia and Alex Rodriguez have hindered this team's options severely. The Yankees have shown interest in Cliff Lee, but he's far past his prime and the odds of them picking up Cole Hamels are very slim. General manager Brian Cashman has been making calls around the league, but no serious trade offers are known.

Dodgers Keeping Matt Kemp

Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said Thursday morning that Matt Kemp is not on the table. We've seen owners and general managers go back on their word before, but it looks like Kemp is going to stay in Los Angeles. Kemp is a great base runner and hitter, but his price tag looks to be too high for others. Kemp will be a free agent in 2020.

The Major League Baseball Trade deadline expired after 4 p.m. EST Thursday.
