With every Major League Baseball team having played over 110 games so far, wins and losses couldn't be more critical. Last season, the American League East Boston Red Sox took home the gold after they defeated the Saint Louis Cardinals in six games.

The American League has always had more success winning the World Series far more often than the National League. However, it looks as if this year the NL has the superior teams.

Much of the attention this season has been paid to the National League West. One of the longest and most fierce rivalries, between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, will probably come down to the final week. The Dodgers currently lead the NL West over the Giants by just 2.5 games at 64-50. Pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke are a combined 25-9 this season on the mound. South Korean-born pitcher Hyun-jin Ryu is also 12-5 this season with 111 strikeouts.

There's no doubt, the Dodgers have one of the best rotations, if not the best, in all of baseball.

But, there's always the Giants. You just can't sleep on the Giants, who have won two of the last four World Series. Hunter Pence has been playing very consistent all season, and he leads the team with 134 hits. Venezuelan great Pablo Sandoval is starting to heat up, and look like the slugger who won the 2012 World Series MVP.

Regardless of who win the NL West, it looks as if both the Dodgers and Giants will be making a big postseason push.

In the National League Central, the Milwaukee Brewers are in first place at 62-51. The Brewers have just one playoff series victory since 1983, when they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011. The Brewers don't have a very safe lead, as the Cardinals are just one game back of them. Adam Wainwright has been their most reliable pitcher all season with 13 wins and a 2.26 ERA. Although the Cardinals don't have a single batter with more than 15 home runs, they have multiple batters with more than 100 hits on the year.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are still alive, but they've been in a slump. Not to mention Andrew McCutchen now has a fractured rib and is on the disabled list. There's a chance we could see the NL Pennant winner come from the NL Central.

It's very unlikely we will see a World Series representative from the National League East. It's been a rather disappointing (in kind terms) season for many of these teams. The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies both sit at the bottom. The Washington Nationals lead the division with a 60-51 record, but many are still skeptical on just how far this team can go. The Atlanta Braves are in the mix, but these aren't the '90s Braves with Tom Glavine, John Smoltz and Greg Maddux.

As of now, the favorites to win the National League are the Dodgers, Cardinals and Giants. There's still plenty of time remaining until the postseason begins. Until then, we will find out which teams are up for the challenge.
