Chris Algieri knows that he will be facing tall odds in his upcoming showdown with Manny Pacquiao, but the reigning World Boxing Organization light welterweight champion believes that he has what it takes to score an upset.

Algieri, who will get a shot at Pacquiao's WBO welterweight title on Nov. 22 in Macau, said in an interview with Tha Boxing Voice that he is used to being an underdog.

The 30-year-old champion said that most people counted him out during his fights against Emmanuel Taylor and Ruslan Provodnikov, but he managed to prove his doubters wrong. Algieri scored a unanimous decision win against Taylor in February and a split decision win against Provodnikov in June.

"I was an underdog against Emmanuel Taylor. I was an underdog against Ruslan Provodnikov," Algieri said. "Everyone was saying I didn't belong in there. Obviously I proved I belonged to be there. People are saying I don't belong to be in with Manny. You will see on November 22nd that I belong to be there."

The Huntington, New York native admitted that he did not expect to get a big-money bout against Pacquiao, who is regarded as one of the best boxer of all time. But after winning against Provodnikov, he realized that the best is yet to come, although he is aware that most people are still doubting his capabilities.

Algieri vowed to prepare harder than ever, knowing that a win could lead to greater things for his professional boxing career. He is also aching to prove that he accepted the fight not just to get the $1 million guaranteed fight purse, but to prove that he is among the best fighters in the world today.

"At the end of the day, I believe I proved to be where I am, that I should be here. This is a very real fight. Mark my words, I'm coming fully prepared and I think Manny knows this and Freddie [Roach] knows this as well," Algieri said via BoxingScene. "I'm not here just for a payday. I'm not here just to fight Manny Pacquiao. I'm coming to win this fight and I'm going to be fully prepared on fight night."
