'Transformers 4' Cast: 'Age of Extinction' Is Official Title, Dinobots Featured
"Transformers: Age of Extinction" is the official title of the fourth movie of the series directed by Michael Bay. "Age of Extinction" is the sequel to 2011's "Dark of the Moon." Bay's previous two installments were titled "Revenge of the Fallen" (2009) and simply "Transformers" (2007).
Yahoo! Movies revealed the title along with the first promotional poster for the movie, which is set to be released on Jun. 27, 2014. The promotional art shows a "Decepticon insignia" combined with the number four, lying in the desert. The fourth installment will supposedly revolve around Dinobots.
What are Dinobots, exactly? According to Yahoo!, they're "the robots that turned into dinosaurs that were one of Hasbro's masterstrokes in the seemingly never-ending sub-groups of Autobots and Decepticons." Dinobots were popular Transformers in the 1980s, which included T. Rex, Triceratops and Stegosaurus-like action figures.
"Age of Extinction" producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura hinted at the Dinobots being featured in the film earlier this week.
"I can not disclose the specifics, but you can be sure that the arrival of the Dinobots will give the audience a lot to be excited about," di Bonaventura said in a Tformers.com interview. "The world's coolest, most exciting cars will appear in the film, including Chinese vehicles, so whether you are a car enthusiast or not, it will be a feast for the eyes."
Besides the Dinobots speculation, other "Age of Extinction" plot details are being disclosed. Bay did tell Yahoo! Movies that Mark Wahlberg, who has replaced Shia LeBeouf as the lead in the upcoming film, will play a father. Wahlberg previously worked with Bay in "Pain & Gain." The cast also includes Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles and T.J. Miller.
Aside from directing blockbuster movies, Bay also serves as producer for an upcoming pirate drama on Starz. "Black Sails," which has already been renewed for a second season, premieres in January 2014.
