This National Hockey League offseason hasn't garnered nearly the amount of attention as the National Basketball Association.

The LeBron James "Decision 2.0" brought a lot of attention from sports fans, but one of the greatest goaltenders in NHL hockey history is still a free agent.

Martin Brodeur still remains unsigned, and the New Jersey Devils haven't made any plans or announcement to re-sign him.

Brodeur has led the Devils to five Stanley Cup Finals appearances, winning three of them. His most recent appearance came in 2012 against the Los Angeles Kings. Brodeur holds virtually every record for a net minder. These records include most career shutouts, playing minutes, saves and wins in the regular season and the postseason. Brodeur is regarded by most as one of the greatest goalies of all time because of his accomplishments on the ice.

Although Brodeur is primed for the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto one day, he is now 42 years old.

The Devils haven't made the playoffs since their defeat to the Kings in the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals. Many fans feel as if the franchise needs to head in a new direction. Brodeur only recorded three shutouts last season, but he did have a 14-6 record. In late March, Brodeur said that he would test free agency. Brodeur also would go on to say:

“I've come to the conclusion that I'm definitely going to be available July 1 ... I want to play one more season and I want to see what's out there."

Brodeur may be past his prime, but he did stop over 90 percent of the shots he faced last season. His experience obviously can never be brought into question, and his goals against average was still a respectable 2.51 last year. He is also one of the best stick handling goalies of all time, resulting in league changing rules because of his abilities.

It would be pretty sad to see Brodeur finish his career on another franchise other than the Devils. Finishing his long tenured Hall of Fame career completely on one team like a Derek Jeter or a Magic Johnson would be a lot better to watch than a Patrick Ewing or Emmitt Smith finale, when they moved on to play for other teams in the twilight of their playing years.

Devils general manger Lou Lamoriello recently said he's "not surprised" that Brodeur is still available. Lamoriello has been with the Devils front office since 1987. Could there be bad blood between the two that we don't know about?

It looks as if the Devils are calling out Brodeur's "bluff." They don't believe he really wants to play elsewhere, and unfortunately for Brodeur, no other team seems to be showing much interest. The Devils definitely have the upper hand in this stalemate, but will the fans miss their four-time Vezina Trophy winner enough to convince the team to re-sign Brodeur?

There hasn't been any recent reason to believe that Brodeur will be playing elsewhere next season. If the Devils don't re-sign Brodeur, his best bet may be to call it quits and retire. He's had a tremendous career and he has nothing more to prove to anyone. He could even join the team at the management level or as a goalie coach. Still, it would be good to see Brodeur in a Devils uniform for just one more season.
