Premios Tu Mundo 2014 Recap & Winners: Gaby Espino Wins Big; Elvis Crespo & Olga Tañon Put on a Show
Latin celebrities brought drama and glamour to the American Airlines arena for Premios Tu Mundo.
The award show, which is in its third year, was mainly a celebration of telenovelas, which gave a different group of celebrities a chance to shine. Some of the music awards were given out before the event even started.
The Moments That Made The show
The show seemed to start off a little slow but eventually found a good pace. By the end, there was almost no pauses between segments.
Aaron Diaz and Gaby Espino hosted the show, and Diaz made sure he wasn't forgotten.
At one point, he took off his shirt and even started to pretend to take his pants off.
Fans were also very happy to see Daddy Yankee, and he took home the Favorite Urban Artist award. When he accepted the prize, he asked viewers for respect for the genre because it creates jobs and because "urban music saves lives."
Dani Navarro, who won best supporting actress, wore a sparkling pink dress and just seemed to have a blast. But no one had a better night than Gaby Espino, who seemingly won all the awards. Her fans, who are nicknamed Espinelas, proved to be the best of all other fan clubs, and she was also voted the best leading lady.
Ximena Duque also did pretty well for herself.
When the night started, she explained that she would rather win the award for best villain than for sexiest woman. Instead, she took home both prizes.
The Performances
The show kicked off with Farruko, Gadiel El General and Yandel. It was a high-energy performance that definitely got the crowd moving, but one of the things that made them stand out was the drummer who played them in.
Before the trio took the stage, there was just a drummer, who was also playing a mix of some of the most popular songs of the year.
Natalia Jimenez delivered a solid performance as usual, but one of the things that always makes her stand out is her choice in attire. This time around she wore a black dress with a high slit.
And if there were a prize for best performance, it would have certainly gone to Olga Tañon and Elvis Crespo. The two didn't let their background dancing do the heavy lifting. The two were dancing and just worked well together. On top of that, the choice of song was exactly what you hope for from an award show.
On the Red Carpet
The blue carpet suffered one problem: the many ill-fitting outfits.
Another brave outfit choice was that a few people chose to go for long-sleeved dresses. While it's expected for the men to dress up, which means dress shirts and blazers, some women were also wearing long-sleeved dresses. The event did take place in Miami, and many of the guests did complain about the heat.
The color of the night was definitely white, or some variation thereof.
Lucero might have looked lovely as she stepped out, but her dress had a little issue. The zipper was partially broken, but she was a good sport and turned around to show audiences at home what happened.
The stars on the worst dressed list were Kimberly dos Ramos and Jessica Carrillo.
For dos Ramos, the red color choice was fitting, but the execution did not work. It didn't fit her well, as it puckered across her hips, and the skirt hem hit at an awkward part.
Carrillo, on the other hand, wore two beautiful jewel tones, but they probably were too much to be mixed together.
An honorable mention goes out to Gaby Espino for wearing a color that resembles highlighter yellow. It was bright, and no one else looked like her. But she was bested by other gals, namely Rachel Vallori, Natalia Barreto and Carmen Villalobos.
Vallori, who wore white, and Barretto, who wore burgundy, went sophisticated and minimal. Villalobos, on the other hand, went a little riskier in Alexander McQueen.
