Angelia Jolie will receive an Oscar award for her humanitarian work.

Jolie will receive the honorary Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced via a press release on Thursday.

According to the press release, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian, which is shaped as an Oscar statuette, is presented "to an individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry."

According to the Academy, Jolie, 38, is honorable because she is "staking out a career in the nexus of entertainment and philanthropy." The Academy also considers Jolie to be an "impassioned advocate for humanitarian causes, traveling widely to promote organizations and social justice efforts such as the Prevent Sexual Violence Initiative."

Steve Martin, Angela Lansbury and Piero Tosi were also announced as the recipients of honorary governor awards.

"The Governors Awards pay tribute to individuals who've made indelible contributions in their respective fields," Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Academy president, said in the statement. "We couldn't be more excited for this year's honorees."

This will be Jolie's 2nd Academy Award. Her first was for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Lisa Rowe in 1999's Girl, Interrupted. In 2009, Jolie was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Christine Collins in Changeling. Jolie lost to Kate Winslet, 37, for her performance as Hanna Schmitz in The Reader.

"I'm so proud to win an honorary Oscar this year with @TheAcademy, So much love & joy to u all, thank you! Congrats Martin, Lansbury, & Tosi," Jolie said via Twitter on Thursday.

Jolie, Martin, 68, Lansbury, 87, and Tosi, 86, will receive their awards on Nov. 6 at the 5th Annual Academy's Governors Awards.

The Academy selects its honorees through votes casted by the Academy Board of Governors. The board held their meeting Tuesday. The winners were not announced until almost 48 hours later because the Academy wanted to contact Jolie, Martin, Lansbury and Tosi first. Many of them, however, were on vacation.

Previous honorary governor award winners include Oprah Winfrey, 59, who was presented the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2011. In 2012, stuntman Hal Needham, 82, DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, 62, and filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker, 88, were amongst the recipients of the governor awards.
