Roger Federer resumes his quest for his 18th Grand Slam title when he faces Gael Monfils in the quarterfinals of the 2014 U.S. Open tennis tournament on Thursday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Federer, who is also eyeing his sixth title at Flushing Meadows, will look to pick up from where he left off from his straight-set win against Roberto Bautista Agut on Tuesday.

But while he will be a heavy favorite heading into their quarterfinal showdown, Federer said that he is wary of Monfils, whom he considers to be one of the most dangerous players in any tournament if he is healthy.

"He's got easy top 10 potential, you know. He's a great mover. He's got a wonderful serve, really, which nobody really talks about because of his athletic movement which stands out so much, you know," Federer said. "His issues have really been just his fitness and his setbacks he's had because of injury."

The second-seeded Swiss player won a close match in their most recent meeting, escaping with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win at the ATP Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati last month.

Monfils, who advanced to the final eight with a long three-set win against seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov on Tuesday, knows that there will be a lot of pressure on his shoulders, but the 20th-seeded Frenchman is looking forward to facing a "legend."

"I think I play tennis for, to against a big legend, big court, short time. That's what I train for," Monfils said. "That's why every day I wake up and I wish I could play those matches, you know. It's like, for me it's the best thing can happen is to play against that guy on that stage."

The winner of the Federer-Monfils showdown will go up against the winner of the quarterfinal match between Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic and Marin Cilic of Croatia on Thursday afternoon.

Novak Djokovic, the top-seeded player in the tournament, already booked a spot in the semifinals where he will go up against Kei Nishikori, who became the first Japanese to reach the U.S. Open semis since 1918.
