On Wednesday, Betty White fans erupted in frenzy following an Empire News article that read, "Actress Betty White, 92, Dyes Peacefully In Her Los Angeles Home."

However, White's fans overlooked the word "dye" and became frantic at the thought that one of Hollywood's legends had passed on, E! News reports.

According to HollywoodLife.com, Empire News is a satirical site known for publishing sensational news that often stirs up frenzy and controversy in the media.

Naturally, Empire News capitalized on the dye-die homophones for their Betty White story, and White's fans unfortunately fell for the bait.

If White's fans had continued to read the article, they would have realized that the Empire News article was actually a story about White not being a natural blonde and having to dye her hair to achieve her famous golden locks.

"In a press release from her long-time manager Jeff Witjas, it has been confirmed today that actress Betty White, best known for her roles on TVs The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls, and Hot in Cleveland, is not a natural blonde," the Empire News article reads.

It continues, "Betty is a solitary kind of person ... She likes to relax in her home with her animals, and she rarely likes to discuss the fact, at least in public, that she is actually a brunette. She has been dying her own hair in her home for decades."

Despite the overall article's focus on White's hair, fans still flocked to Twitter to express their shock and sadness over the "Hot in Cleveland" star's alleged death.

But now Betty White's fans can rest assured that the golden girl is not dead. On Wednesday, White's agent told The LA Times that Betty White is still alive and working.

"She is on the set shooting 'Hot in Cleveland' right now," he said.
