ALS Ice Bucket Prank: Autistic Teen Tricked, Drew Carey Offers Money to Help Find Perpetrators
Though the ice bucket challenge has permeated social media promoting awareness ALS and increasing donations, some high school students in Ohio have used the viral campaign for a mean prank. The teens tricked the young man and poured a bucketful of bodily fluids and excrement on him.
The small town of Bay Village, Ohio, has not seen anything like this. According to the local WKYC news station, an unknown number of teenagers from Bay Village High School tricked a 14-year-old boy with autism into participating in an ice bucket prank.
On Wednesday, the parents of the teenage boy told school officials of what happened after they found a video of the incident on the teenager’s phone. The boy had been tricked into believing that he would participate in the viral video craze; however, the teenagers dumped a bucket filled with urine, feces and spit on the young man. They then uploaded the video to Instagram.
The Bay Village Police have begun an investigation into the matter and described the incident as a “heinous act.” The school held a fundraiser for Autism Speaks on Friday before a football game at the school.
According to Cleveland.com, Bay Village Mayor Debbie Sutherland said in a statement released on Friday that police are "working closely with the Bay Schools, analyzing the device used to record the video, interviewing witnesses, determining exactly where and when this occurred and identifying those involved. Preliminary information suggests this occurred prior to the start of the school year at a home in Bay Village."
Once the police finish their investigation into the matter, they will hand the case and information to the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office “to determine charges.”
One man is trying to help in the search for the teenagers. Cleveland-native Drew Carey took to Twitter to show his support in the search for the teens.
