NFL Monday Night Football 2014 Schedule & Predictions: Philadelphia Eagles at Indianapolis Colts
The second week of Monday Night Football kicks off, and it promises to be good one.
The Philadelphia Eagles travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts in an interconference battle. Both of these teams are led by young quarterbacks, Nick Foles and Andrew Luck:
Indianapolis Colts (0-1)
The Colts are coming off a loss to the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning on Sunday Night Football. This will be their second consecutive week on prime time in front of everyone. Despite losing to the Broncos 31-24, they are favored to win this game against the Eagles at home.
Quarterback Andrew Luck has never lost back-to-back games in his young career. Luck can play reckless at times, turning the ball over frequently, but he usually plays great in the second half.
Even at the age of 36, Reggie Wayne has looked like himself so far. Last week, he had 98 receiving yards, and newly-acquired wide out Hakeem Nicks scored his first touchdown as a Colt. The running game remains suspect at best. Former No. 3 overall pick Trent Richardson isn't showing signs of improving or being worthy of that high selection so far at all. The Colts need to win this game because the Houston Texans are now 2-0.
If the Colts can't establish the running game, they could be in trouble. There's a good chance we will see Luck throw the ball more than 50 times, again.
Philadelphia Eagles (1-0)
The Eagles are coming off a 34-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Not the most notable win, but they did erase a 17-point deficit in the process. The Eagles are widely considered the best team in the NFC East.
With the Dallas Cowboys still playing inconsistently, the Giants' offense looking lost and the Washington Redskins having quarterback issues, the NFC East is the Eagles' division to win.
Running back LeSean McCoy is an elite running back who can beat you on the ground and through the air. He was the NFL leading rusher last season with 1,607 yards. Despite being drafted in the third round, quarterback Nick Foles continues to show he's no fluke. Foles has 35 touchdowns and just eight interceptions in his career so far.
The Eagles have the more balanced offense, but can their defense contain the Colts' passing game? The Eagles are in for a much tougher task this week than the Jaguars' passing attack. The good news for the Eagles' offensive line is they won't have to face Robert Mathis who led the NFL with 19.5 sacks last season.
Schedule, Where, When to Watch
The Eagles and Colts will kick off in Indianapolis Monday night at 8:30 p.m. EST. The game will be played at the Lucas Oil Stadium and will be shown on ESPN. The full Week 2 schedule for the 2014 NFL season can be found here. Live stream of the games can be seen on WatchESPN.
Predictions
This should be a close game as neither team has a clear advantage. The Colts never lose back-to-back games, and they're at home. But the Eagles have the more balanced attack. Turnovers and penalties may be the difference. Colts can't start 0-2.
Colts win 34-31
