Comedian Pete Davidson has been added to the upcoming 40th season "Saturday Night Live" cast, Deadline reports.

Davidson joins "SNL" as the youngest cast member that will appear in the show's 40th season. At just 20 years of age, Davidson will take on SNL "...at an age even younger than that of Jimmy Fallon when he came on board the comedy at showcase at about 22, and just slightly older than that of Eddie Murphy, who was 19 when he debuted in 1980," Variety reports.

Prior to joining "SNL," the Brooklyn native comedian made appearances on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Brooklyn Nine-Nine," Nick Cannon's "Wild N' Out," and MTV's "Guy Code." [E! News]

Though Davidson has not made any public statements on his new NBC gig yet, he has retweeted a series of congratulatory tweets from his peers and family members.

Davidson's "Guy Code" co-star Charlamagne Tha God tweeted, "Salute to the young god ‪@petedavidson newest cast member of SNL!! ‪#CodeGang."

Davidson's sister, Casey Davidson also tweeted, "So crazy proud of my brother for becoming the newest cast member on SNL! Love ya like crazy."

In addition to Davidson, Michael Che was also recently named as a new cast member on "SNL."

Last Thursday, "SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels announced that Che would replace Cecily Strong as the new "Weekend Update" co-anchor while Strong would remain in the cast as a featured player.

"Michael is a strong writer, and he's really funny," Lorne Michaels told the New York Times. "It's always difficult to make changes and make 'Update' different from what's gone before."

He continued, "This is about a new era, what feels appropriate for now. That's why we did a lot of combinations and tests, and this is kind of where we came out."

The new season of "SNL" returns on Sept. 27 on NBC. Chris Pratt will host the new season's first episode and Ariana Grande will be featured as the musical guest.
