The 2014 NFL season is already three games complete. While some teams are thriving at 3-0 and 2-1, there are some other teams who are still in search of their first victory. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars are all 0-3 to start out this season.

The Buccaneers have looked awful so far, losing their last game to the Atlanta Falcons 56-14. Their neighboring team, the Jaguars are also win-less playing in a terrible AFC South division. Out West, the Raiders are still trying to find a rushing attack.

Time to panic? Maybe, but history tells us those fans bases shouldn't give up just yet. In the Super Bowl era, five NFL teams have overcome the terrible 0-3 start and made the playoffs.

1981 New York Jets

In 1981 the Jets lost their first three games to the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals. The teams running game was nowhere to be found and the defense was even worse. After those three losses the Jets would go on to win 10 games finishing 10-5-1 on the season. Quarterback Richard Todd had 25 touchdowns and 13 interceptions that season.

1982 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Buccaneers fans are hoping the 2014 team can mimic this 1982 team. After losing the first three games, the Buccaneers would go on to win five of the last six games of the season. A players strike shortened the season to just nine games, giving the Buccaneers a 5-4 record.

1992 San Diego Chargers

This was probably the most impressive 0-3 team. The Chargers hadn't made the playoffs since 1982, and sitting at 0-4, things didn't look good. The Chargers won 11 of their final 12 games of the season despite their starting quarterback, Stan Humphries, who threw 16 touchdowns to 18 interceptions. The 1992 Chargers are the only team to start 0-4 and make the playoffs.

The Chargers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round, but lost to the Dan Marino-led Miami Dolphins in the second round.

1995 Detroit Lions

It's not often we see the Detroit Lions on the right side of NFL history. Despite having Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders, the team began 0-3 with losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings. But a Week 4 victory over the defending Super Bowl champion San Francisco 49ers erupted the team. The Lions would finish the season 10-6, good enough for second place in the NFC North.

1998 Buffalo Bills

The most recent team to overcome an 0-3 hole is the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, the franchise hasn't made a single playoff appearance in the 21st century. In 1998, the Bills finished with an impressive 10-6 mark, good enough for second place in the AFC East. Quarterback Doug Flutie, who stood just 5-foot-10, rose to challenge by tossing 20 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions.
