The Boston Celtics are remaining firm on their stance to keep Rajon Rondo, but an analyst is convinced that the superstar point guard will eventually be traded before the upcoming season's trade deadline.

Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders said that the Celtics will trade Rondo unless they can find a way to acquire another superstar to convince the All-Star playmaker to stay in Boston, pointing out that the 28-year-old point guard will not be interested in staying in a rebuilding team.

"Unless Boston is able to land a star player who would persuade Rajon Rondo to sign a new long-term deal, then Rondo is likely gone," Kennedy wrote. "As I said earlier, he's at the stage of his career where he wants to contend and he's not going to be patient as Boston rebuilds with young guys."

Kennedy also added that the Celtics will not wait until next summer to make a move, knowing that they could lose Rondo if they will not trade him before the trade deadline.

The former Kentucky standout, who averaged 11.7 points to go along with 9.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game last season, will become an unrestricted free agent if the Celtics fail to convince him to agree to a contract extension.

"I don't think the two sides would part ways next summer, I think they would be parting ways in February before the trade deadline," Kennedy wrote. "It doesn't make sense for Boston to hold onto Rondo and likely lose him for nothing next offseason when they could trade him and get some assets back."

In the event the Celtics decide to shop the eight-year veteran, Kennedy believes that Boston will get a lot of offers from several teams, including the New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings.

The Rockets reportedly made a strong pitch to acquire Rondo last season, and they are expected to do so again after failing to land a big-name free agent this offseason.
