'The Legend of Korra' Book 4: 5 Notable Things in 'Korra Alone' [Watch]
The second episode in Book 4 focuses mostly on what Korra's been doing in the last three years.
"Korra Alone" shows us the avatar's recovery and the struggles she has faced since battling Zaheer. Here are five important things to note.
1. Korra's biggest enemy is herself.
Korra continues to see herself in the avatar state, and is constantly trying to fight herself. The Korra in the avatar state keeps trying to put chains around her to trap her, but Korra keeps running away. It's very symbolic of her internal struggle, as she continues to run away from her destiny.
2. Korra spends time with two members of Aang's original team.
Korra is able to walk again through Katara's help. Katara points out that Korra is struggling with things that need to be worked out. She can't just be healed by Katara and be ready to retake her place as the avatar. Katara played a big role in Aang's recovery in the original series, and she has done it again for Korra.
After Korra is defeated by Korra in the avatar state in a swamp, Toph finds her. This is the first time Toph is actually seen in the new series. Up until this point, she has only been shown in flashbacks. Toph calls Korra twinkletoes for old time's sake.
3. Korra feels Kuvira is doing her job.
Korra is disappointed when she finds out that Kuvira is supposed to be bringing peace to the Earth Kingdom. Korra feels Kuvira is doing her job, which might add to the feelings she had at the end of book three when she felt that the avatar was no longer needed.
4. Bolin's motivations are revealed.
Korra is being written letters by her friends, and in one letter, Bolin explains that he is joining Kuvira. He believes he is stabilizing the Earth Kingdom in joining Kuvira, but it doesn't explain why he has continued to support her.
5. Korra's most important relationship is with Asami.
Tenzin is the only one who has come to see her, though this probably has more to do with Tenzin's stubbornness than Korra's desire to interact with him. Korra chooses to contact Asami. It takes her a long time to write back to Asami, but she explains how she really feels to her. Asami and Korra weren't good friends at the beginning as they both had feelings for Mako, but in the letter, Korra shows that she trusts Asami the most. She even asks Asami to not tell Mako and Bolin that she has written to her.
The cast was just at New York Comic-Con, where the creators talked about animating the characters just a few years later. Watch the whole segment below.
